Alright. Lots of doom and gloom out there. Defense looks vulnerable. Some injuries, although apparently minor. Turnovers. But there's a LOT to be happy about tonight. Buck up, folks. 1. USC, Florida, Georgia and Wisconsin got their asses handed to them this week. LSU won easily, though certainly not beautifully. 2. LSU lost the turnover battle 2 to zip, put the ball on the carpet at least two more times and luckily recovered it, and had some pretty bad penalties at pretty bad times. And recovered and kept control of the game. Good sign. 3. Miss State played a very good football game tonight and had zero turnovers. Clearly they played one of their better games of the season. And LSU beat them easily. 4. Jarrett Lee, as predicted, had a few scary moments but overall played a very good football game. We're still going to have to see how he handles constant and violent pass rush situations. But so far, so good. And the receivers caught damned near everything remotely catchable tonight - that's good as well. 5. Charles Scott. Questions? 6. Offensive Line. Questions? 7. Special teams did a nice job of recovering from the opening kickoff and keeping Pegues in check. Dalfrey only punted twice, but one of them was great. 8. Dalfrey only punted twice. Basically, LSU stopped themselves - Miss State wasn't able to do it. 9. We knew there was a risk of a slight let down this week after a very tough game against Auburn and Miss State's lackluster start this year so far. And there was a bit of a let down. And LSU still won easily. All the chicken little types out there will "yeah, but" my list to death. I remain very confident. If LSU can play this mediocre and still manhandle MSU, I'm not worried about the rest of the season any more than I would normally worry about playing football in the SEC. :geaux:
Couldn't agree more, especially with point number one. Those team got beat by inferior opponents. We did not. Let's shore up the D and refocus on the next team.
LSU is fine. a sandwich game betweeen a top 10 team Auburn and the at one pt. #3 team in the country in UF. UF losing didnt help our cause but we do have a bye week. but they do have cupcake R-Kansas to feel better about themselves before dealing with a ready to go tiger team. catching UF this upcoming week after a loss would have been much worse. should be a hell of a game--if we limit turnovers.
even if they were in, the intensity and focus go up exponentially when it involves UF or UA. be happy with the W and move on. wins are always good. And no, the gumps dont deserve to be ahead of the undefeated reigning bcs champs. dont kid yourself, kids. or sell us short. you will have been mistaken.
I was very happy with Lee's play. He made some mistakes but he is a winner and will be all conference one day. We need another running back besides Scott. I hope someone in the next class can plant their foot and cut back. KW and Murphy are ok in space but I am worried if Scott is ever injured. The defense is a work in progress. State exposed some weakenesses. Can you imagine what Harvin would do to our linebackers. We've got some work to do.
To me, the biggest bright spot is that there are now plenty of things for the coaches to ride their asses about over the next two weeks. Although I am concerned about the pass D, it mainly looked like they just got disinterested at times tonight.
