Does that mean Spurrier's not a comin?? On a serious note, I feel bad for liking the fact that he's making more than Saban. I'm wrong ain't I? It's not my nature to wish ill- will on someone struggling and I liked Saban, understood him leaving LSU, and to this day still appreciate what he did for our program even though I was mad about losing him; however, it must REALLY have to sting a little for him to know what could have been- especially with things not so hot in Bama right now. Now, I say that with the belief that they are going to get better- it can't get a whole lot worse, BUT, I also see that for it to get anywhere close to what he, Bama fans, and the program expects, it's going to be a lot harder than I initially thought.
everyone here is obsessed with sexy nick. i touched his car today and felt a tingle downstairs. with that being said les deserved a raise, congrats.
I've never actually seen Brett do that in the year and a half I've been posting here... Kinda scary. On the reals, though: I've been a Miles man since the end of the '05 season and the way they finished over Miami. That showed me what he and his people were capable of with the right amount of time- '05 was an unfair year considering all of the emotional and strategic turmoil with Katrina and Rita. I'm glad to see him get rewarded for his hard work. He's a good fit for LSU- unorthodox and very visible, and that's exactly what our fans want. May the Hat make it through these five years to another extension.
I was open minded on Miles, and he has proven a pleasant surprise. He makes some mistakes on game day, clock management at the end of the game could be better. I still hate the play calling in the 06 Auburn game, which may have cost us a shot at another national championship. On the other hand, he's proven a very adept recruiter. He's proven he can attract top quality coordinators and assistant coaches. These two things alone are worth tons. He seems to have a heart and love the players, and he can dish out the tough love when required. He will take some chances (see Florida game) and the players seem to like playing for him. I love Patrick Johnson's comment about "feeling comfortable with Coach Miles", and Russell Shepard saying Coach Miles was honest with him. What goes around comes around, and integrity may cost you one kid today, and get you 10 kids with the character you want in the next 5 years. He's gotten better with the press. I'm very pleased with Miles, and having the opportunity to go to Mich, and staying at LSU says volumes! I do lament the high salary, $1.8 mil should be enough for anyone. It's not LSU's fault. Who started it, Oklahoma, USC, ND, Alabama, and unfortunately LSU had to match to keep up. It does not make me happy though. But I've never seen that genie go back in that bottle (salary escalation).
i agree. who was the first to have the agreement in their contact that if they won a nc, they were the highest paid coach in cfb by a certain amount of $? i am sure that there were a lot of coaches with that agreement at the time bama hired saban, which caused a lot of ad's to poop their pants.
I hate to say it, but I thought that clause was an LSU invention. We didn't set the market, but we committed to match the market for winning a championship. I missed Florida and Spurrier, some place I read that they started the salary escalation thing in the late 90's. I remember Tex. A&M started a round in the 80's, agreeing to pay Jackie Sherrill $1 million a year to leave Pitt. That was a landmark at the time, and I don't remember anyone matching the Aggie stupidity for quite a while. Then it may have started over with Spurrier at Fla. in the late 90's.
