It's obvious that Les miles has lost total control of the defense on the road....He needs to go !!!!!
LSU's NCAA hopes are most likely on the line today at Florida. A loss here and the Tigers will be forced to win the SECT. Tipoff in 40 minutes in Gainesville (CBS).
Couldn't agree more, Izzy....just telling a buddy of mine that this might as well be our first playoff game of the season. If we lose this one, especially badly, then short of winning the SEC tournament I doubt we'll make the NCAA. Still encouraged by this years team.
Oh, well. That wasn't even close. Like Tiger in NC, I am still encouraged by this years team, too. I think they will continue to improve. Maybe they will get on a tear in the SECT. I mean, somebody has to win it. Clearly, we don't match up well w/UF, so somebody will have to upset them for us to win it. Likely, to NIT.
Mixed bag for me. Talent wise, it may not get a lot better than this year's team (given the propensity of star players to go pro). It's been a subpar performance by Jones on the coaching side. Hopefully that can turn around next season. Lack of hustle on defense is inexcusable, however. That's what worries me most.
Are you saying that adding folks like Elbert Robinson, Aaron Epps, Keith Hornsby, Josh Gray, Ben Simmons and the other folks that we've got committed are not going to elevate this team over time? I don't see Jarrell or Mickey leaving early off this team, and if Hickey stays, and the rest of the team, I think this team can only get better. Look I know sometimes I happen to be the optimist on this site, but I would throw out there that basketball is a game of matchups when you talk about personnel, and coaching when it comes to schemes and execution. I don't want to keep harping on this, but I think the primary reason why our defense has not been better this year is two fold, the personnel we have on the perimeter, and the certain schemes (and exploration in that fact) that we may be running. I think anytime you turn freshmen over from HS to college, the last thing to come around is defense, and we have had a hard time guarding the perimeter against a guard heavy SEC this year. I think having more athletic, mobile 6-3"-6"6" wing players has been an achilles heel for us from a personnel perspective, having Jarrell Martin, at 6'9" 240+ guarding 3s has led to mismatches and a zone-heavy defense. I'll be very interested in how some Junior players that we haven't seen, Josh Gray and Keith Hornsby, and a sophomore year from Tim Quarterman, fills this hole more adequately next year. Let's just remember again that Florida is the class of the SEC.... a senior laden team--and when you have a talented team stay together that long, there is a huge difference. This is also a team that beat NCAA bubble team Tennessee by 26 at home. Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee and LSU are all in that RPI 60 and below area. A loss to UF did nothing detrimental to our chances to make the tourney--obviously a win would have been hugely helpful, as opposed to a loss which was expected. This team is still got to win out if they can, and play well in the SECT. Meet Missouri, Arkansas or Tennessee in the Tourney, and win, even better.
Agree fully. I started to respond to Izzy's talent comment, but knew you would do a better job than me.
Appreciate the optimism. Really do. But to say LSU has a shot at the NCAA without winning the SECT is delusional at this point.
LSU wins a pretty ugly road game, but hell it's a road win, only the 3rd one all season long. A 20 win season is now within reach. Also keeps LSU out of the Florida side of the SEC tourney bracket. LSU, needing to now win the SEC to get into the NCAA tourney, would have Georgia and Kentucky, two teams that they obviously could beat to get to the finals. I don't know if anyone could upset Florida along the way. I don't see LSU beating Florida, even on a neutral court. I would be happy if they got that far to see if they even have to play them.
