There will be a truckload of info coming out on this, but most of it will come from these videos (> 30 minutes on each) as the source material. Not much from the players yet that I can find. There's an A.P. article out there quoting Mettenberger, but the 5 minute video is below. WBRZ talked briefly to Russell Shepard, but didn't get any answers about his future. Jordan Jefferson's interview is barely a minute, but he sounds confident... Bold Points from today: Mathieu likely the punt returner with Brroks and Claiborne on kicks Stud said he would utilize true freshman WR Odell, WR Landry, RB Magee, ATH Turner (special teams seems like a given) and potentially RB Hilliard Josh D's injury was more serious than previously thought so held him out of the spring and some of the fall but is now on pace. Mettenberger just needs time to learn the offense according to Stud Chavis predicts to have a nickel back in the game at least 375 snaps this season. Matheiu, Simon, and Claiborne will all play CB Hatcher is a MLB only Montgomery is 100% Chavis said this is the best D he has been around Loston has made the most progress on the defense Feels confident to play more LBs this year 5-6 DTs will play each game including Ego and Logan
I've been really excited to see what Loston can do when given the chance, if memory serves me, he was very highly touted coming in. And i really like that statement from Chavis, since he's produced some very good defenses in his day.
LSU has a problem, too many good players. Taylor (#18) should stay on the field, then that leaves Loston and Reid. Most defenses, in the nickel or dime package, one of these would come in. But with LSU, LBH#7 and Ron Brooks looks to have the inside on these positions. With the "Mustang Package" a form of the dime and/or NFL style 3-4. The down linemen look to be Mingo, Brockers and Montgomery, LB's would be Baker and Hatcher, then the DB's, a mixture of Brooks, #7, Simon, Reid, Taylor and Claiborn. Do they send the gunners #7 and/or Brooks, or let them drop back in coverage? Do they send Baker and/or Hatcher? Someone will be coming, but who? The second play in this shows you... How will RB Magee be used? If Ware, Ford, and Blue stay healthy plus touches for Magee & Gore, shouldn't Hilliard likely redshirt? What is the rough percentage equivalent of 375 plays? If we play 5-6 DTs, will they be able to rotate mid-series against Oregon? Or just wait until the next series due to pace of play? Having big safeties like Taylor & Loston along with corners that can tackle gives me a little more confidence in our lack of LB experience/depth.
See Mustang Package above. LSU will match speed with speed. They don't rotate OLmen, so we don't need to rotate DLmen. The package just overloads the O-linemen, makes them have to think. The OT has to pickup the outside rush of TM7 and Brooks. At times they won't be coming, so the tackle is standing around with no one to block or helping the OG.
