Some interesting numbers, maybe posted before, I maintain, since the beginning of the BCS the landscape has changed. The school and their commitment to the sport make a huge difference. 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6, 9-2. Then, 4-7, 8-5, 9-4, 7-5. First group, Nick Saban's record at MSU, second group, Les Miles record at OSU. Neither set are something legends are made of. IMO. LSU the institution, the fans, and most of all, the players, are a huge part of what these coaches become.

No we are getting ready to play in the SEC CG next week. Now take notes. LSU sure as shit didn't make Curly Hallman or Gerry DiNardo. Just like Alabama didn't make Bear Bryant or Nick saban. They were just good fucking coaches ( Saban and Bryant) , but yeah go ahead and act cool in front of your cheerleaders here.
No, the school does not make the coach. They both help make each other. We have watched several great football powers fall down several rungs with the wrong coach. We can fault Miles for a pedestrian O, his lack of evolution, etc but he did advance LSU from where Saban had it. He recruited exceptionally well. Players learned and were ready to step up their role each year. Unfortunately that coaching up has come to a stop for whatever reason. LSU has lost it's swagger. LSU has extremely great recruiting from La and the surrounding states, but again, you need the right coach to bring in those kids. DiNardo did a great job of starting to put back that fence around La, and Saban sealed the gate. Miles up until the last few years kept that fence up. While he has lost more top talent recently, mainly to Bama he still recruits nationally better than any LSU coach before him. LSU the name does have a ring, but the coach does make a huge difference. Look at UM under Hoke and other coaches. The list could be infinite at how many great football powers were not a success with the wrong coach.
