I get the points you are trying to make. I am incredibly excited about this young man's potential, quality of character, and apparent leadership skills, too, but it is still all potential at this point. Writers have a way of making things sound soupy if they want. No denying he is a great talent, but we need to be cautious about putting him on a pedestal before he has even taken a snap in purple and gold and displayed those leadership skills in Tiger Stadium. Shoot, if he is as much of a leader as purported, he probably doesn't want all of this gushing about him.:yelwink2:
Uh. No. I was talking about a p!ssing contest. Perhaps your college experience was different than mine...
I feel for the kid today as the coaching staff completely scuttled the game by handcuffing Jefferson in the second half. He was clearly our best option at QB and I judge it a poor coaches evaluation that said he "wasn't ready". The second half of the season can't help recruiting! Pitiful, just pitiful! Texsport
I view Russell Shepard as very similar to Patrick Peterson - two guys who are natural leaders and tremendously talented (although Shepard probably has better character as judged by their actions during recruiting). I'd say that Peterson has essentially matched expectations of him this year by playing at least 50% of the snaps and performing better than our other CB's. If Peterson had been able to enroll early as he planned, he likely would've been a full-time starter at some point. IMO, when Miles says that this class is one that can win a NC, Shepard is a big big part of that.
