http://www.vype.com/houston/general/4197 The kid is beyond special. Again, I reiterate, he will be a leader on this team from the outset as a true freshman. Do not count him out of the running at starting QB in 09. He will do everything in his power come the Spring to make as big an impression as possible.
Great find. Wow, that really is a touching story. This kid seems too good to be true, what a leader. His parents have done a fantastic job raising him. I can't wait for him to have success here and have Tiger Nation chanting his name. :tigereye:
“I don’t like people bragging on themselves,” Russell Sr., said. “When Russell was nine he was bragging before a game about how good he was to his teammates. It was really bad. I just whooped him right there on the sideline and told him that was it. He hasn’t been boastful since.” That right there is why he is like he is. His father was there to show him right from wrong. Dam this kid is gonna be something.
I know why he picked LSU. Les Miles is the one the parents as well as Russell himself could trust to take good care of him while at LSU.
Quote of the whole article: "we will be turning him over to Coach Les Miles in January." Russell, thank you...if anyone can do it it's you.
"The family dynamics at the Shepards is really no different than anyone else."-what an understatement! From reading the article it is apparent that their family is extraordinary. You can tell that their family values involve transmission of the faith, developing the true dignity of others, forming moral consciousness, etc. The parents should be commended for their example. If there were more families like this in the big cities, imagine how better life would be. LSU is not getting someone who will eventually develop into a leader on the field. We're getting a fully mature and fully formed leader- A real field general that the upperclassmen can rally around immediately. This is precisely the dimension that is missing right now and taking too much time to develop. You guys are right on when you say "Rusty" will contribute as a freshman. There's no way Miles will not want him on the field! I can't wait!:geaux:
:geaux::crystal::helmet: This kid is going to be a lot more special than I thought, no matter what position he plays! He's one of those types that don't come along very often and LSU is so fortunate to be getting him. All the more credit to CLM because I'm sure his parents were super particular about the invironment "Rusty" would be in at college. He wasn't just going to any program. It was going to have to be a program built on honesty, integrity and genuine concern for developing kids in all aspects in addition to success on the field. Coach Miles has established a reputation in all these areas. As other posters have said, I can't wait to see this kid on the field at Death Valley!!!! Geaux Tigers!! :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
