There's no way you can ask a freshman with average skills to jump into a role he never should have been placed in and expect him to excel. I also wonder if people would be giving Lee as much grief if the defense was properly coached and some of them didn't phone it in following the Bama game. It certainly couldn't have contributed to his confidence.
sorry for the thread stealing guys but this makes me laugh because it's something i do to make sure i get money back lol. don't politicize it. anyway, at qb it's been said by multiple insiders that jefferson is definitely the number one guy right now, but that lee's arm is ridiculously polished. that basically saying that miles is going with the leadership jefferson showed and his chemistry with the team over lee's obvious throwing potential yet weak(ened) leadership skills. i really think that we'll see both of them next year with lee getting more than mop-up.
 Yes, let's put ourselves in the same situation we were last year.. forcing inexperienced QBs to start in the SEC. That's ridiculous.. especially considering that Lee will mature, grow, and learn the ins and outs of the position. Lee needs to stay.. because he can and will see the field next season.
Only way I would have seen him thinking about a transfer is if he fell to the 3rd QB spot. That is not looking like a possibility with Shep not ready to step in more than situational QB at best right now. I don't see Shep getting extended time in the game until midway through the season after he gets his feet wet.
Excel is one thing.. if you have average skills the way you succeed is to play smart with the ball. The defense did not throw 5 interceptions. This is LSU football, that is an unacceptable level of quarterbacking at this school.
Football is a team game. Perhaps if Lee had more time to throw he would have made better decisions. If Byrd hadn't quit on his routes (and his team).. perhaps less interceptions. If we didn't have passes tipped into the air.. perhaps less interceptions. If our defense didn't give up points so easily.. those interceptions would not have been a huge deal. Regardless of interceptions or not we still averaged ~31 points per game.. and that should equal a win. J. Lee has a skill-set that is far above average. His arm is incredible. If he can learn to go through his progression and not lock onto receivers.. his ceiling is at least as high as Jeffersons.
Get real, amigo. Lee was thrown to the wolves and made freshman mistakes but is going to be a better quarterback. He still has the best arm on the team. Reading defenses is a coachable problem that is being addressed and we are going to see a different Jarrett Lee this year. Anyone wanting Lee gone is wanting LSU to be shallow at quarterback which makes no friggin' sense at all! We've invested in him and we will get a return on it. The SEC is a rough league and Jefferson could go down, you know. Lee is a Tiger and we need him. Rick Clausen started at LSU and didn't so well, so he transferred and later brought Tennessee into Tiger Stadium and beat us, possibly costing us the 2005 National Championship. If one of our Quarterbacks is a junior with no prospect of starting, then perhaps he should transfer to I-AA like Craig Nall did to get some immediate playing time for NFL exposure. But we don't need Tigers transferring as sophomores.
Whether or not Rick Clausen had a few good games, he was still terrible overall at UT. I'd agree with you guys if we actually had zero talent behind Jefferson and Lee. This is LSU, we have talent. If Lee has a stronger arm than Jefferson, he sure didn't show it. A lot of his passes were dead ducks.
So your disgust with Lee makes you willing to take a chance on going to Geogia, Alabama, and Ole Miss with a true Freshman Quarterback? We will be fortunate to win those games with an experienced quarterback. Those teams have talent also.
We have Shep and Chris Garrett behind Lee/Jefferson. Which one of them would you want being our starting signal caller? Neither of them know the playbook. Neither of them have played a down of college football in their life. As red said.. get real. Lee will see significant playing time and our team will be better for it.
