That's how I feel too. Things that can do obvious damage shouldn't be allowed, but what damage can sliding kids do? They've been doing it for years and nothing significantly bad has happened, so why start all of the sudden?
Actually several ravines had started forming from bare spots where they couldn't keep grass growing due to pedestrian traffic. The soil on the mounds is poor and thin. Last year they had to pack in some river silt to stop the erosion. Both the problem and the cure are bad for the mounds. Best to just keep people off of them, especially crowds.
I have no problem with the kids sliding. If that poor girl hadn't gotten run over a year or two before I got to LSU in '85, I probably would have driven my jeep over them at some point. I do realize now that it would have been really wrong, but as pointed out in the Mettenberg thread, 18 year olds, especially males, have been known to do some dumb things...and Jeeps do like to climb hills!

that's pretty funny, i was thinking more along the lines of South Park's version of Whale Wars.
One of those cigar Indians next to each one will do it. I used to have classes in the field house years ago. Sit out there and watch the ladies pass by...
