With the news concerning Brantley, the thread title has evolved to: "LSU Defense heading straight into some ribs"
Exactly. What's LSU's recent record in the Swamp when they've played football there? Trust me. I remember the Florida thrashings of the 90's under Spurrier. I hate Florida. I would like nothing more than for LSU to cram it down Meyer's throat. I just don't think it will happen.
We are 2-3 there over the last 10 years, but I thought we were talking about 2010 here. We may very well lose, I just don't think the Tennessee game is a good indication of where we are. We'd had a positive turnover margin on the year until Saturday.
As previously stated, I think we got 60-40 odds at taking the W. Our defense matches up well with their below average offense. QB for FL is in question. Even if he starts, Nevis and Matheiu will have him counting his own ribs by the end of the 1st quarter. P. Peterson will be Brantley's leading receiver. I will further state that IF they let him play and IF Lee can keep his head on straight, we can take it by 10 or more points. I would be willing to financially support a fund used to retain a certified psychotherapist who should accompany Lee at all times when not on the field. A comfortable sofa should be provided so they can chat between offensive drives. The kid has the physical attributes. But I'm not sure he presently has the coping skills required for the job. But by God he does keep hanging in there. Deserves the shot and a little patience on our part to make up for all that time parked on the pine. Should we win by 14 or more points, I will go even further and state there's a 60-40 chance that Urban Meyer is seen in the local ER within 24 hours of game ending for severe and crushing chest pain. (Note to Swamp staff.... check the automatic defibrillators to ensure proper functioning.) If he does not make it, Tebow will speak at his funeral and name an orphanage after him. Maybe write "U.M.R.I.P." in his eye black. Losing or break even season for Meyer might just = retirement for health reasons. And... I predict that if the game is close and the time clock management is again mishandled, we will have a new coach next year.
Once again for all you JLee haters out there .... Jarret Lee put up 21 points against a way better FL team in 2008 without the help of good running game. [No Ridley]. If Les Miles will let the boy play, we can win this game easily, and I venture to say a lot of attitudes will change on this board. BUT .. now if brainless puts JJ in a signifcant amount of the time, who managed a whopping 3 pnts against FL last year ...we are likely to lose. :geaux:
In all fairness, Charles Scott had a good season in '08. But Jarrett Lee scored some points in the Swamp that year, and he threw some interceptions. Our defense ultimately let us down in that game, and it got very embarrassing after halftime. The 2010 Gators are not the '08 version, as our team is not the '08 Tigers.
I'm not meaning to diss C. Scott, .. but, he never "wowed" me as a running back. His stats and his performance never matched, because he was not a play maker. He was just a RB. I never saw Scott break tackles ... in fact, I used to throw stuff at the TV everytime they ran him, because he'd hit the line and go down. He, IMO, was a better open field performer, but was pretty disappointing in traffic. Bottom line .. with Scott, LSU's offense seemed to one dimensional for the pass. I think that contributed to a lot of the pick 6s, because the defenses knew Lee was going to pass. Ridley on the otherhand is exciting to watch. You watch him run, and he reminds you of a great back. He breaks tackles for the extra yard. He flat ran over a much bigger TN defender in that last TD. He has the running style of a great back. He pulls off big plays .. and hopes the OL doesn't commit a stupid holding penalty like last week. His own admitted weakness, is he doesn't have the break-away speed for the open field. But hey, I'll take the first downs 10-20 yrds at a time. You're right about the Defense. 08 was rebuilding year for the D. We were weak. It would've been a much closer game if Lee would have had this Defense behind him .. we may have even won. I'm just comparing what I saw. In 08, we had Lee, an ineffective running game, and a bad D. In 10, we "may" have Lee, a fantastic RB, and a great D. I think we can win. If it all clicks, it can be a blow out. :geaux:
I believe we can pull off the win. Lee has experience in the swamp. I also believe that the gators (little g) are desperate to prove themselves and they are going to try too hard. Causing mental errors that will cost them on offense. The Chief will have the D fired up and ready for some lights out football. I just don't see the gators scoring many points in this game. 24-10 Tigers!!!
"Pinto" racer ... I'm having flashbacks to the Ford Pinto .... Yeah .. I know, irrelevant ... but funny to me! :geaux:
