I'm perfectly happy that we grabbed Alexander. He's even better than advertised.

Those 1930's LSU teams are seriously underappreciated by Tiger Nation, IMO. The 1935 and 1936 LSU teams were both SEC Champs and both named national champions and so listed in the NCAA record books but not claimed by LSU (had Huey Long not been assassinated in 1935 we might have ended up claiming them)

From 1932-1937, we had the #6 win pct in the NCAA and only averaged 1.66 loss per season. LSU went to three straight Sugar Bowls from 1935-1937...and those were the first 3 bowl games in LSU history. Those teams provided the impetus for Huey Long to double the capacity of Tiger Stadium by ordering dormitories to be built with seating on top

There were only about 9 pro teams in the 30's

so that Bernie Moore 1935 team with 8 future pros would be like an LSU team today having 30. Plus, the LSU rosters were a lot smaller back then (like 35 players?). Plus the whole US was a lot smaller back then:
    123,202,624 people in 1930
    132,164,569 people in 1940
    308,745,538 people in 2010

The author does mention it: "With the NFL comprising only 10 teams in those years with rosters typically numbering 20-25, 7 or 8 pros from one team was quite remarkable."

Gaynell "Gus" Tinsley was a consensus All-American in both 1935 and 1936. In 1936, he was second in balloting for national MVP honors. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame (moving to Atlanta soon). He only played in the NFL for three years, and was All Pro every year, named to the NFL 1930s All-Decade Team, was #1, #1, #2 in receiving yards his three seasons, and he broke the NFL single season receiving record and tied the NFL single-season receptions record.

Bernie Moore once said: "Tinsley could have made All-American at any position. He was so tough."

Some other big things going on during that time:
-The first canned beer was sold (1935)
    -Alcoholics Anonymous is founded (1935)
-the first nighttime Major League Baseball game is played (1935)
-the first night rodeo held outdoors under electric lights (1935)
-Babe Ruth plays his last MLB game (1935), Lou Gehrig/Joe DiMaggio take center stage for the Yankees
-Picasso completes his painting Guernica (1937), arguably Picasso's most famous work
-Gone with the Wind is published (1936), wins the Pulitzer Prize (1937) and is made into a film (1939)
-Walt Disney 's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premieres (1937)
-Batman makes his Detective Comics debut (1939)
-1937: A guard takes his place at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Washington, DC; continuous guard has been maintained there ever since.
