It is a different sport. LSU gymnastics has been hunting for that National Title for a long time. It is going to take that "marketing" to continue to push for a title.
He isn't. We dont do that for sports we are established at. But we do stupid shit like this~! And then lose 29-0!!
I see nothing wrong with celebrating,.. that Rovell guy's just an asshole, I guess happiness offends him,.. just say no to enjoying life? a billboard just for winning their conference would have been ok too
You know the answer to that. What would you think if USC lost the national championship game in football and somebody put up a second place billboard.
Isn't EVERY sport on the hunt for a National Title? There's marketing and then there's participation trophy mindset IMO. Title IX resulted in the removal of some scholarships and men's sports in favor of making an "even" playground for women. Women cannot and should not expect to be treated differently, then. It's sports. There's a winner and then there's everyone else. I don't believe a billboard like this would go up for ANY men's team, no matter how long they've been trying for a Natty. This billboard is a virtual pat on the head, like saying "good girls, way to try hard" without legitimizing them as athletes and that means dealing with losing. I did see that some of the team responded to Rovell and clearly they liked the billboard. For me personally, as someone who has been an athlete my whole life? I hate it. It's as bad as someone laying up easy when they are kicking your arse. If it's going to be equal, straight-up.....then don't ask for or expect shit like this. Is it "nice"? Sure. Is that really looking at these athletes legitimately or is it saying they are girls, it's okay to be second best?
It is literally no different than our billboard for sending kids to the NFL. Its because we cant win titles anymore we make those instead. Oh and.... Dont remember any threads on this gem. Whats worse, celebrating 2nd at the national title game or top 16? Caring about a billboard and being upset about it would be the equivalent of throwing away a silver medal at the Olympics. It is quite literally, a medal for the 1st loser. But you, no one does that...
Further, I am not sure a congratulatory billboard for finishing 2nd in the country hardly counts towards "participation".
