Obama's solution: Take from the BCS powers and give to the mid majors. The BCS powers have no business getting rich while the smaller schools suffer. That way, the mid majors avoid having to "work" for the money by getting their heads handed to them in a game.

    McCains solution: "I uhhh, I'm not sure how many teams . . . uhhh, . . . I'll uhhh . . . have my staff get back to you on that. "

Based on from what I got from the article, It'd be more like LSU makes $3.5M to $4M for a home game and pays out $750K to teams that are only coming to play us at Death Valley without us going to play them at their stadiums. Yes, that makes more money for LSU than say, a home and home with Southern Cal, where we pay them $400K to play us at Tiger Stadium and then they pay us $400K to play them in Los Angeles.

However, why are we paying $750K to these teams, when other big-time schools are able to pay half that to similar teams they are playing?

Also, what about the Tulane deal? We have home and homes with them -- we make the profit when they play us in Tiger Stadium, but they make the profit when we play them at the Superdome. With that being the case, why do we play them $600K, which is more than Southern Cal ($300K), Ohio State ($400K), Oklahoma ($300K), Florida ($500K), Auburn ($350K), Georgia ($300K), Tennessee ($300K), Notre Dame ($300K, $350K) are getting paid by the teams they play on the road?? One of those articles makes it sound like the small-time teams deserve more money because they are pretty much agreeing to add a loss to their schedule. If that's the case, shouldn't the contract be that we will pay you $600K if we win, and something more reasonable, like $300K, if you win?

Also, why is LSU #1 in the nation when it come to the amount of money paid to non-conference opponents?

Not to mention the higher ticket costs for us only to go and watch LSU demolish LaMonroeTechLafayetteStateTulaneCollege.

Incorrect retort....the Dems say McCain would just be another 4 years of Bush; therefore, McCain's solution would be to invade Appalachian State.

The teams in the SEC are not hurting, least of all LSU. Probably the wealthiest conference in college football, and with the new tv contracts, we just got richer. Supply and demand. Not many teams are beating down our door to play us, much less play us in BR, so the small schools that do can command a premium. LSU still makes ridiculous bank, as evidenced by our self-funding athletic program. Our facilities get better, our teams get better, we get better coaches, we compete for more championships, in several sports. It costs $, but at the end of the day LSU ain't in the po house.

Eventually it will reach a saturation point with some teams, and LSU(and others) will stop calling, demand for them will go down, and so will their payouts. When they become too expensive, we will just rent a win from someone else.

Another article I read said that the LSU to App St tag was $500,000 originally. LSU threw in the extra $250,000 to change the game from 2009 to 2008 schedule as I understand it.

Yes, App made a nice financial contribution to Katrina relief. No, it's nowhere near what LSU will pay App to come into Death Valley. Please remember that many of us up here in the highlands have also spent our vacations since 2005 working in KatrinaRitaLand helping mop up and rebuild. There's no way to measure all that.

We're glad to be on the schedule, praying for Gustav to go to Mexico, and hoping for a great game Saturday.

<--- Plopped down some tourist money last fall in Asheville. Beautiful place. Drove up and down the Blue Ridge hwy.

    Tourism dollars circulate.

And if you spent some of your vacation to help rebuild southern Louisiana, we are in your debt. Thanks amigo. Come party with us Saturday.
