LSU will always have a tough time recruiting TEs with Miles at LSU. We just don't feature the TE very much in the passing game. Dickson, as good as he was, only had 324 yards receiving in our championship season. Deangelo Peterson's career was without much fanfare, yet he is in Mike Mayock's top 5 TEs in the upcoming draft (#4, actually). Tells you a lot right there. I don't think we stand a chance for either Smith or Dobard. And that's a shame. I wouldn't go to LSU if I were a talented pass catching TE.

Unfortunately, I agree. I was just gushing about John Thomas a few days ago. Then last night, I talked to my coaching buddies who are familiar with this kid and they say, he could be an animal if he was unleashed, but since he's deadset on LSU, if he's smart, he'll redshirt, put on 50-60 lbs. and play OT and he'd really be unleashed. Supposedly he has this nasty streak that would make him a great O-lineman if he chose that route, and they say his frame can hold it...so we'll see. They don't feel Les will commit to a passing attack using the TE consistently, which, considering the lack of big guys in our WR corps now, we probably should be utilizing these super-athletic TE's. When your top 3 receivers are all under 6'1, you'd better have some bodies at TE for those "tall" passes.
:geaux: You'd think after what Bama & Smelley did to us in the NCG that LSU would recognize just how damaging and effective a TE can be in the offense. If the light didn't come on after that display, there's not much hope. :dis: :LSU231:
Rivals has 3 of our 5 recruits as 4 stars now (Brazil, White, Cutrer). They have yet to evaluate the other 2.
I have a few more players that I thought were targed by LSU. Not sure if you feel like checking them out and adding them to your list... Mlevin Jones, Lake Charles, LB 6-3 245 (offers from Nebraska and TCU, not LSU yet) Karl Malone Jr, Ruston, OL 6-3 285 (offers from LSU and Alabama) Greg Bryant, Florida, RB 5-11 200 (offers from most top programs, incl LSU) Jordan Huff, Alabama, RB 5-10 190 (verbal offer from Florida St) James Cox, Alabama, WR 5-10 195 (offers from Miss St and Purdue) Jatavious Wilson, Bastrop, 5-8 160 (small, but receiving interest from SEC schools)
