LSU preview Second year in a row that the LSU preview is free from ESPN. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s usually a very good, in depth preview.
"The challenge for this football team is to keep the bar where it's been," Miles said. "Every year that we've been here, that's been the goal. I think that our football team will understand that's where we're at, and that's the level that we're going to play. "We've been in a position in this program to do some special things, and we don't believe this team will be any different."
hard to not get excited reading that. We if QB and DB develops, it's possible to be in atlanta again.
THe old adtage is that football games are won or lost on the line of scrimiage. I believe this is true, especially here because we've rarely had a dearth of skill players. Line depth is critical If DB's and QB's develop, we can have another great season.
That was a nice read. From what I got from that article: Our strengths will be our offensive line, running backs, wide receivers, defensive line, and safeties. Our biggest challenges will be: Leadership -- Mallory said that never in his life has he seen such a group of leaders like Dorsey, Steltz, Hester and the rest of the seniors that we lost. That leadership is going to be hard to replace. Which is why Miles keep saying over and over (like four times) that "this is a new team," and that "The key is to redefine ourselves." Defensive Play Calling/Game Planning -- The article said Pelini spent most of his time devising the game plan and calling the game, and the other assistants handled their own individual units. I'd imagine that devising the game plan and calling the game is a pretty crucial part of the chess game when it comes to winning in the SEC against teams like Florida, Georgia, etc. Losing our key defensive game planner and game caller is not good. Outside Linebackers -- the article made it sound like we are good with Beckwith in the middle, but other than that, we have issues. Cornerbacks -- Mallory felt the biggest hit LSU took was at the corner position, and the article did make it seem like Hawkins and Eugene are struggling and that our CB situation is an issue. Quarterback -- Although the article actually made me feel a lot more comfortable about how good our QBs are looking, it is always an issue when you go to a new QB without experience. Tight Ends -- Crowton was saying that we're going to miss David Zinger and Mit Cole for their blocking at tight end, and the article even claimed that Crowton said Dickson needs to work on his blocking, and that we are going to have to rely on redshirt and true freshman. Special Teams -- Our return game wasn't very productive last year, so that's an issue. Another issue is that Colt David lost his holder and his snapper (both positions are being filled by redshirt freshmen) and that, because of this, Colt David missed 3-of-4 field goals in the spring game. The other big issue is our lack of a solid punter to replace Patrick Fisher. Anyway, that's what I got from the article. Big picture is that every team has their own issues and challenges that they have to overcome.
I agree with the coach. We got alot to prove. I say let the chips fall where they may. I just think most of the blue ones are on our side of the ball. We need a QB. We got a couple of prospects. We needed a QB last year. We had a QB that was satisfactory. He didn't make many mistakes. Those he made were forgiven due to the array of talent surrounding him. Kind of reminds me of '03. Same scenario. I can GUARANTEE anyone only one thing about the upcoming season: It would SUCK to have to play the LSU TIGERS. I'm ready for some football. That's all I got.
Not good news on our punting options.... Punting = Field Position. Our 3rd punter weighs 155LBS's????? Yikes. TH will be missed on PR and KR if he makes the Olympics..... Regardless, we have a pretty solid team!! :geauxtige:geauxtige :geauxtige:geauxtige
