That's the standard SEC fine for doing that from what I hear. The call in show after the game mentioned that it was going to cost them 5k. I think it's more of a liability thing than anything else. It's no big deal anyway. LSU probably made a couple hundred thousand extra on concessions just by having fans stay until the end.
When I was in college back in the early 90's, I believe the students at Wisconsin rushed the field after a win, and a girl caught in the stampede and died. It can be dangerous.
I have a friend whose kid went lie down on the eye just to take a picture. As to the fine, it's 5K the first time and goes to 25K on a third offense, if I remember correctly.
Well, on the bright side, we only have one more home game this season. (But that depresses me because it means football season is slipping away...and it's simply the best time of the year.)
Still this is retarded. Did they pull the goal posts down, did they trash the field? Freaking taking the fun out of everything.
In previous years, all the stadium police came down onto the field with about 5 minutes left in the game and stood about 10 feet apart all around the fence to discourage fans coming onto that field. Last Saturday the police stood in two tightly packed groups of about 25 each right under the goalposts. They were not letting the goalposts come down, but they didn't do much to keep the crowd off the field.
