i think the late kickoff took it out of not only the crowd, but the players as well. plus it was pushed back 15 more minutes because neither oklahoma nor cincinnati could decide who wanted to lose.
Right on the money. Jefferson is by no means a good QB but it could be worse, which is hard to believe but it is true. We could be giving the team points, literally.
Bingo. And as much as I despise booing players, this goes back to Jefferson's "plea" for fan patience. Frankly, I think our fans have been very patient waiting for some semblance of offense to emerge through a full season and four games. And there's still virtually none, and no indication that any is forthcoming. I agree, you're not going to find some saintly fan base that isn't going to voice its displeasure when the option has been run ineffectively for the hundredth time leading to 3rd and long.
I understand the players may not be able to tell who the fans are booing. However, Les Miles will fight making a change like an addict and I can only imagine how slow change would be if fans didn't voice their frustrations. The fans need to come up with an alternative sound to booing so that the players would know it wasn't directed at them.
Well I've noticed that this is an ongoing problem in the student section. I was sitting around a million frat rats and their girlfriends, and a LOT of them took off at halftime in a 10-point game. It's like the student chapter of the wine-and-cheese TAF people who do the same thing, where the game definitely seems to be more of a backdrop for a social event than wanting to see the team play.
Experience has shown that booing changes nothing, fans getting frustrated on the 'net changes nothing, fans emailing the chancellor, the AD, or the coach changes nothing. The only way fans can voice their frustrations effectively is to stop showing up. Change comes from empty seats and unsold tickets. Then changes comes quicker than you can say Smoke Laval. The silence of empty seats screams loudly at coaches and athletic directors.
^This is exactly what I was saying while I had to witness this last night. :thumb: I was explaining to my dad, while we watched fans pour out of the stadium with about 10 minutes left in the game, that LSU football games are starting to become more of a social event for people/businesses that have money to spend on tickets while the true tiger fans who are watching the game to see an LSU win, are stuck at home yelling in their living room.
The hard-core football fan students in jeans and t-shirts are serious students and supporters of the game, thankfully and a huge asset to the program. But the ones that dress up for games (Frat boys and their debutantes) have always shown up late, have lots of no-shows, and left early. Then they complain every time the AD takes empty seats away from them and sells them to fans who will show up.
I know booing does nothing as far as the administration goes. However, I'm really not sure Miles would have fired Mallory and Peveto had the fans not been so vocally pissed. This is my point exactly. If season tickets continued to sell and Les Miles felt no pressure of losing his job, do you really think Miles would have fired his buddies. Why do you think Kirk Ferentz still has a job? Iowa fans are happy.
They also run the SG, so unless this becomes a big revenue headache for the AD, that ain't gonna change. Could be just my perception, but it seems like this contingent of students is significantly larger than it used to be. As for taking away seats from no-shows, they have nobody to blame with the current policy in place than themselves. Personally I'd like to see a somewhat stricter policy for students leaving at halftime or the 3rd quarter, though I admit that would be a lot trickier.
