Regardless of the stats, that was a very even game, and in the only way that matters (the scoreboard), LSU won. Rewatching the game, it was pretty clear that we'd physically bested Bama by the middle of the 4th quarter. Both teams absolutely laid it all on the line, but LSU won--no controversy there. As for the missed FG's, luck had nothing to do with that. Saban continued to run his kickers out on the field to attempt FG's out of their range, well out of their range. He should have punted and put us deep against the goal, but he was out-coached for the second year in a row during our November game. I'll give Bama their due--they kicked our asses in January. I cannot wait until November 3rd, however.
Sorry, there is no opinion on one item...there is only fact when you have 2 QBs in the spring and fall of 2008 and you claim that Jarrett Lee was #3 QB. Please look up the timeline for yourself. Perrilloux suspended Feb 2008 and never was active again before he was dismissed May 2, 2008 from the LSU team. Those are facts sir, not opinions. That left only Andrew Hatch who you correctly said was #1 and Jarrett Lee #2 for 7 months before the start of the 2008 season. Thus, if Jarrett Lee was not prepared to be the backup QB, I have to lay that at his feet...I bet the coaches worked with him. IMO, it was not an even game and I won't relist the stats I just gave. I disagree with you saying that LSU had worn Alabama out by the 4th quarter...to be fair, I didn't see where Alabama had worn LSU out either. I do agree that LSU won the game on the scoreboard and thank goodness there was no controversy. Lou "nutcase" Holtz tried to act like that Reid didn't intercept that pass on the 1 but I think we all know he took it away before he and the UA receiver hit the ground. I don't think those FG kicks were out of Alabama's range because the way I remember, they were off to the side except of course the Hail Mary 53 yarder or whatever in OT after the sack. I detest little Nicky but I don't think he was outcoached at all. IMO, you don't punt from the opponent's 30 yard line even with mediocre kickers...3 points were golden in that game as proven by 9-6 score.
I'm not as much of a fan of listing stats as you seem to be. I rely greatly on the eye test. The kicks were short and wide and WELL out of range for the Bama kickers. Verne and Danielson even kept pointing it out during the broadcast, and Danielson generally takes every opportunity to kiss Saban's ass--but he questioned the FG's Bama attempted. Personally, I feel that constitutes being out-coached. Yes, 3 points were golden, as was field position. Over and over, Saban sacrificed that to try for kicks his guys couldn't/wouldn't make. If you didn't notice Bama wearing out in the 4th, you must surely have noticed that they were out of gas in OT? They were; we weren't.
I am NOT accusing you of this but I will accuse myself. Since I am an LSU fan, countless times I think "man, we kicked their butts" using the "eye test". You know what...the eye sees what you want it to see. Then, I go to stats where I thought we dominated and the opponent has more first downs, more yards, etc. I go by "eye test" + stats verification. In this case for me, both said Alabama SHOULD have won that game but didn't. The field position gain was minimum unless they happened to hit superb punts...gaining a few yards when LSU isn't moving the ball at all anyway...who cares. I will stick with my accessment as obviously you do. OT was too short for me to notice anything...1 possession each team. As I remember, an LSU sack send Alabama out of FG range....yes, I WILL concede that 53 yards was too long for their kicker. LSU had the one good run by Ford who IMO screwed up...he was barely touched and ran out of bounds...he should have stayed in bounds and scored a TD (unforced error in tennis). This will be my last post on the subject just because we have expressed our opinions and are off topic now. I do respect your own opinion here BTW. Debate/agree with you on another topic.
My opinion was that Lee was "thrown to the wolves" unlike Hodson. It remains my opinion and there is nothing you can do about it. I can see that your contrariness precludes further discussion. Good day.
Guy, I have no problem with your conclusion although I disagree with it. What I correctly pointed out is your flawed information that got you there. Below is from Post #53 in this thread posted by you. Notice the #3 claim by you as to Lee's position on the depth chart going into the season. Obviously with Perrilloux not active on the squad since February of that year and gone in early May, Lee clearly was not #3. The #2 QB gets a ton of reps since he is the first substitute if #1 gets hurt (which Hatch did). Anyway, Jarrett simply is not a very good QB...he had time to be prepared and step in and couldn't do the job....simple as that. "Tommy Hodson went into the season as the number one quarterback and had been groomed for it. Lee went into the season as the #3 with prospects of little playing time until injuries forced him into the starter role unexpectedly. Thrown to the wolves."
Why don't you repeat this about five more times. Then we will all agree and praise you. Alas, I am moving on to a more interesting conversation.
This is the same guy who was complaining that on the other website people jumped all over him for voiceing his opinion and had to stop posting after a week.
