    You are right about the screen size. I plugged my lap top into the 100 inch media room screen and your posts are only 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,20,1,1,1,1,11,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,10,5.2

    The kid is about as genuine as they come. I wish him the best in whatever he does. He seems to be one of those kids who will make something out of themselves off the football field.

    Watching the NC JUCO game showed me a heck of a lot about Mettenberger...great fundamentals, not just in throwing the ball....but dropping back quickly and getting into throwing position, quickly looking for receivers, stepping into the throw, etc. Just from a visual point of view about the simple things, Jefferson nor Lee never looked comfortable at QB back there....Jefferson's Don Drysdale windup...Lee backpeddling on his passes, etc.

    I have held off using the word "bust" on Russell Shepard waiting to see if he could make it at WR...doesn't look like he can. If he still has to try to catch passes against his chest after almost 3 years at WR, then I don't think he can do it. RS is like a track guy who simply doesn't have football skills. To be fair to him, he isn't the first...Xavier Carter, remember him? Or a recent example...Trindon Holliday. RS has never caused a speck of trouble (correction: he was suspended for 3 games in 2011 for talking to other players about their testimony related to Willie Lyles NCAA investigation) but I think he will be best remembered for really helping to bring Montgomery to LSU via some player recruiting and of course Loston too if he can stay on the field and reverse the injury bug.

    LSU Football Media Day is Tuesday and Fan Day is Satutday...

    The Tigers will practice on Monday before taking a day off from the practice field on Tuesday (on Tuesday, LSU will host Football Media Day from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Football Operations Building)

    LSU will begin two-a-day practice sessions on Wednesday, with the first scrimmage of camp scheduled for Saturday in Tiger Stadium (also on Saturday, LSU will host the annual Fan Day from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Maravich Assembly Center and the Maddox Field House)

    Another good read off of GeauxTigerNation on practice......love how the defensive linemen "were reckless in their manhandling" (I hope it means with no regard for opposing team human life, just love seeing one of those big fella's demolish someone else's QB.)

    LSU on Monday morning donned full pads for the first time in August as the Tigers wrapped up a stretch of five straight practice days to start August camp.
    It was the second day of the team being together as a group, meaning you are getting a feel for how newcomers might be used this year.

    What's particularly interested is watching the linebackers, where true freshmen Ronnie Feist, Lamar Louis and Deion Jones, all true freshmen, have often worked together as a second-team unit behind first-teamers Kevin Minter, Tahj Jones and Lamin Barrow. That doesn't necessarily mean a veteran like Luke Muncie, who was competing with Barrow for the starting spot on the weak side, has completely fallen out of favor, but it is interesting to see the young players get early looks.

    Another true freshman linebacker, Lorenzo Phillips, got the big win of the day in the Big Cat Drill, dominating running back Terrence Magee in his turn. It was redemption for Phillips, who was blown out in his rep on Sunday by fullback J.C. Copeland. It was the second straight day of the mano-a-mano drill designed to foster a culture of toughness.

    The physicality increased with the addition of the full pads. In the secondary's form tackle drills, the players who took turns as the "tackled" player seemed to absorb considerably harder blows than they did in shorts and shoulder pads the day before. Defensive linemen were reckless in their manhandling of tackling dummies.

    Already, the increased physicality is taking at least a small toll. For the third straight day, wide receiver Paul Turner was absent and defensive tackle Bennie Logan did not participate. Defensive end Barkevious Mingo remained in the green non-contact jersey that he's worn throughout August camp because of a weight-lifting injury to his left arm.

    The increased physicality led to something the Tigers are probably ready for now -- a break. Tuesday will be media day, meaning no practice for the first time since Tuesday. After the one-day break, LSU will hit its most grueling stretch of camp: two practices on Wednesday, one Thursday and two Friday before a Saturday scrimmage.

    After taking Sunday off, the Tigers will practice twice Monday, then once a day for the rest of camp.

    some of Matt Moscona's observations on practice this morning...

    (I'll get back to the Big Cat in a bit)

    The Catch of the Day came from Odell Beckham who made not one, but two one-handed grabs on overthrows from Zach Mettenberger (gasp!), one on a skinny post and the other on a fade. Beckham also made the most athletic play of the day when running to individual period after Big Cat, he put his hand on Russell Shepard’s shoulders and leapt over him.
    (note this is the second day in a row he said OBJ had the catch of the day, and in an earlier practice he noted another great catch by OBJ)

    Travin Dural had the only drop of the scholarship WRs. It is becoming obvious that this is a pretty sure-handed group, especially at the top with Beckham, Landry and Shepard.

    (note that yesterday, he said that there wasn't a dropped pass by any of the scholarship WRs and said they looked focused...good news regarding Shep, and I assume Fobbs and Williams were practicing so good news on them too...all three reportedly had butter fingers in earlier practices)

    Another guy who is quietly having a very nice camp is James Wright. He is a veteran who LSU would love to see have a breakout year to take pressure off of the young WRs and Mettenberger. So far, so good.

    After the QBs worked with the WRs, they spent time working on handoffs and screens with the RBs and then short passes to the TEs. As I have stated many times before, passes to RBs out of the backfield will have to compensate for the lack of a pass catching option at TE. Every one of the TEs either dropped or couldn’t get to a pass while running 10 yard outs. Don’t expect many highlight reel plays from this group. They have a ton of size and will be best served blocking for LSU’s stable of backs

    at QB, Rob Bolden has done just about everything right, but don't count out Stephen Rivers. Rivers continues to steadily improve this fall. It’s impossible not to notice his physical improvement from his freshman year to now as well as his accuracy inside of 20 yards. He just rarely misses that close and shows excellent touch. Beyond 20 yards, he misfires a bit, but Rivers has clearly responded positively to the competition Bolden brings.

    Greg Studrawa has spent a lot of time giving personal instruction to his young guys on the OL

    on defense, Eric Reid made the play of the day after Corey Raymond appeared to overthrow the entire secondary, Reid used excellent closing speed to make a one-handed grab over his shoulder.

    The three groups working with Raymond were:
    -Simon, Mathieu, Reid;
    -Jalen Collins, Ronald Martin, Craig Loston;
    -Dwayne Thomas, Micah Eugene, Jalen Mills.
    Get used to those names because you will see all of them play in 2012.

    The Tigers will be back on the practice field for a full squad workout Monday afternoon. They will take the day off from the practice field Tuesday for Media Day.

    Shepard can compensate for the TE's if he perfects the inside routes out of the slot.

    I might get flamed for it and I know it's too late now, but Mettenberger should have been the starter last year and I think that will become obvious as we move along this year.
