Well then there’s this whole offense thing. Promise, talent and unrealized expectations. Say what you want but this is a great group of kids who have stepped out time and again and continued to work hard. They’ve heard the chatter and they haven’t fully escaped the “expert” analysis of ESPN. They got something working against SC who has a better defense than A&M. I saw a big step forward not just in that they won but how they won. You may not want to hear about a heavy rushing attack, but here it comes again. LSU will try to establish the running game, control the line and methodically work lots of time off the clock.

It’s a good formula in any game but especially here when you can keep the other guy off the field. A&M plays decent defense but they are not going to dominate … consider this:

    Team Florida
    Rushing 142
    Passing 165
    Total 307

    Team SMU
    Rushing 106
    Passing 203
    Total 309

    Team SC State
    Rushing 34
    Passing 189
    Total 223

    Team R Kansas
    Rushing 142
    Passing 373
    Total 515

    Team Ole Miss
    Rushing 159
    Passing 305
    Total 464

    Team La Tech
    Rushing 165
    Passing 450
    Total 615

    Opp Rush Yd / Game
    125
    Opp Pass Yd / Game
    281
    Opp Total Yd / Game
    406

5 out of 6 teams have gained over 100 yards on the ground. Four of that six have rushed for over 140 yards. Hello Mr. Ware, Mr. Hill, Mr. Ford and Mr. Hilliard. My interest is not whether we will run the ball but how we run it. I do love old school football …

But all of you waiting to fall on the sword at the thought of a run-laden offense attack, put away the sharpening stone. There will be opportunities to go up top and mix it up with a little air attack. As long as the receivers continue to catch the ball and that line provides the protection. You gotta like the fact that A&M gives up almost 300 yards in the air on average and three teams have gone over 300 on their own. La Tech was just off the hook.

Bottom Line … Johnny Manziel may be known as Johnny Football but he’s going to need to be Superhuman to win this one. The Tiger defense does have their work cut out for them, but the formula is simple. Make Manziel wish he had taken up Soccer instead. Then impose your will and pound A&M. Maybe this will be the week where we will see a little more play action later in the game …

This week the Tigers will put to death another opponent’s dreams. Only this time it will be on the opponent’s home field.
