From the 1st game on, LSU seemed to get better and better on D. Our main issues are and were the D line. At times, it seemed ( to me atleast) that the D line started to make improvements. However, these past couple of games they have gotten ran over. I would say most of this is missed tackles. I stoped watching this past game at half and I think in tiger chat, Choson marked up around 20 missed at half. I like chavis and think that he has coached this D to keep us in every game, which he has done, but we gave up a lot of yrds to TECH of all teams. I mean, we havent gotten blown out this year like last or even like the last year of BO, but we have given up some yrds on the ground. I'm not calling for his job or nothing like that, but whats the problem? It can be 3 things Players Coach Scheme How do some of yall see it? I am leaning more towards the Dline players just aren't as good as in the past few years.
I think our defense has drastically improved from the beginning of the year. Tech ran against us and made us look bad, but from what I saw, they exploited a weakness that other teams have shown we have. We don't always tackle so sloppily, so it's not that. We run a 4-3 with one LB that's more like a safety, so that's effectively a nickle D. Add to that, we have been sloppy against runs where the RB runs to the outsid. Also, because of the small LB, we don't plug holes very well. The greatest factor of why we gave up so many yards, I think, is that the players went to the game with the mentality of "Oh, it's just La Tech. We always cream them, and this time will be as easy as the last time....right?" That factor will be fixed come the Ole Miss game:helmet:
We don't have that one guy on D that everyone feels like they have to doubleteam like we had with Lavalais and Dorsey. Those kind of guys make a bigger impact than most people realize.
bingo. Nevis has done well at times, but our ends have really been the big disappointment. When Nevis gets doubled, Alem and Levingston haven't gotten pressure. Alexander has done well at times also, but i would expect a guy who was on the 1958 roster to do as such.
As far as the Louisiana Tech game it was two things on defense. 1--Poor tackling by linemen and linebackers. 2-- Poor angles taken by backs who underestimated the speed Tech had getting to the corners. LSU is used to being faster than our opponents.
There were several plays where the back was 3 yards past our line before he was even grazed by a defender.
Well most college teams don't have former prison guards on their defensive squads either... kinda came natural to him.
Defensive end play has been poor. Both sides. Look for Ole Miss to try to exploit that this weekend. I'm looking forward to some fresh faces at that position next year, like Brockers and Montgomery.
