Right. But Les had no one to turn to last season when Jefferson should have been benched. Lee is also a senior with experience, but proved to have as many issues as Jefferson. If Mettenberger is the quarterback of the future at LSU, there is no point in letting him sit if Jefferson fails. Not in as important an opener as this one. He's going to go in sometime this season. By all account Mettenberger is good enough to start, just not that experienced at this level. And you don't let a guy walk into spring practice and anoint him a starter. But August practice is another thing. I think Mettenberger is going to be right in there. It would be best for the experienced quarterback to start on the road in a big game. But if he falters . . . he will be replaced.
Our D-Line has been dominant over the past decade but I might be more excited about this year's unit than any other. We've never been this deep with so much speed on the line, which is fortunate given the matchup with Oregon. Assuming Montgomery is back to 100% in the fall, what is the projected depth chart including all guys that will be in the rotation on the D-Line? Does a guy like Mingo play more against Oregon than he would against a traditional power SEC team?
Speed is one thing, knowing where to be is another. Under Chief the defense is getting where it needs to be. In 2009 sacks were at 21, last year it jumped to 34. Mingo only started 1 game last year but was the leading tackler among the DE's, he was tied for first in sacks with the DE's. To add, he was second on the team with QB Hurries. He broke up 6 passes, forced 2 fumbles and recovered one. No tell how things would have ended with a healthy Sam Montgomery, in 5 short games, he had 6 tackles for loss and two sacks, to go with 18 tackles. At the rate he was going, he could have ended the year with tackles in the 50's. :miles:
Think about this one, you could have on the line at one time, a True Freshman and 3 So. With Mingo, Brockers, Montgo and Freak. :thumb:
