Eugene was beat in the Kentucky game for a Touchdown. That is what a previous poster was alluding to I believe.

Well..its not like you're never gonna get beat playing cornerback.

Eugene is a very talented guy, hes just green.

I think we'll be fine at CB next year...It should be a struggle early on, but once we get to SEC play, they'll be all right.

Eugene, should be one of the starting cb's, I think the other will be a wide open race.

EVen the All-American corner back will get beat badly for a TD...but what I didn't like about Jai's playing time at CB (in the little amount of time he actually had) was the fact that he lined up WRONGLY--or blew his assignment what seemed like 60% of the time in that Kentucky game....and that wasn't like it was the first game of the season--it was mid-season.

Now, I'm not saying that Jai will never evolve into a shut-down type corner--or even simply a solid starter for us, but I'm NOT exactly too thrilled with the prospect of us having Jai as our top experienced CB returning to start '08. ...again, NOT that I can't be proved wrong, or that I think we'll struggle all year, but I'm just not going to exactly jump for joy.

...Our SEC schedule begins Sept. 20th vs Auburn... That leaves us with North Texas, Troy and another game TBA before the 'Barners come to town.

I don't imagine UNT or Troy throwing a whole lot. Also, Auburn's new offense (which was actually showcased vs Clemson in the Chic-fil-A Bowl) will be yet another spread option attack.

Jai has the ability & was a highly rated CB recruit. I don't put to much blame on him for the Kentucky game as he came in completely unprepared & not warmed up.

What worries me is that so far he has been a penalty flag waiting to happen.

I think Jai will be much better next year because he'll train & practice this summer/spring knowing that the starting CB position is his for the taking, as opposed to before when Chevis was the definite starter. The only question is will he be improved enough.

That's 3 games LSU has, in order to get at least 2 corners ready for SEC play...That should be enough time for them to be ready...I think that Auburn's spread offense will more like WVU's but not as fast, unless their QB Burns develops into a solid passer...This means that Auburn will come to the game against us with question marks regarding their QB and we'll come in to that game with questions regarding our CB's...I think I like our chances better.
