It is hard to argue against a game plan that wins a national championship. Way to go coach. Who would have thought that when Saban left we would find a coach who would surpass in three seasons almost every single accomplishment Saban achieved in 5 seasons.
Pelini blitzed and our defensive line got pressure by itself for the first time in probably 8 games. That right there makes all the difference in the world. And on offense we got all of our playmakers involved early, something that hasnt always happened. One hell of a gameplan.
And disciplined play- only three penalties and one was a horse crap excessive celebration. Those are so arbitrarily handed out- some players do summersaults in the endzone and don't get flagged. Personally, I'd be pissed as a coach if my players weren't excited about where they were at that point in the game. I was very excited about cleaning up the penalties too though.
I was very impressed with Pelini's game plan and was very pumped to see him let the DB's play man and throw blitzes at OSU. The DB's were amazing. Crowton threw some new formations at them and them scratching their heads. His planning and play calling was stellar as usual. Les had these guys prepared and got them settled down after the opening blunders. (Anybody notice that Flynn was so nervous that he forgot to put his mouthpiece in that entire opening drive?) The discipline and lack of penalties was phenominal. I don't know how that made that happen but the boys were ready and well prepared. Kudos to the entire staff and The Mad Hatter.
I just had the pleasure of meeting Coach Miles 30mins. ago. He is exactly like you would imagine. He talked to me and a friend of mine like he had known us all our lives. Obviously the first thing I told him was Great Game Coach, his response, that was fun wasn't it, the kids had fun, the coaches had fun ,we really enjoyed it, it was special. It's no wonder he recruits so well, he would be very hard to dislike. I commented on the news story where his daughter was the reporter and that WAFB said before the report aired, that Miles had kissed a reporter, details after the break. He said really, I haven't seen it yet but we had a lot of fun doing it. I told him when he did see it, he would be very proud of his daughter, she did a great job. Folks, we are in very good hands in my opinion! :thumb:
I must obviously be drunk with Miles' cool-aid in the post game elation period, but, what the heck. Thinking back, I think Miles did built on Saban's success, but made the team even better, consistently for three seasons. Although he still had some of Saban's recruits up to this final game, the credit has got to go to Miles as he and his staff helped nourish and develope the players into who they are today. I will give Saban credit for jumpstarting this program, but I can never see any LSU team rallying around Saban in the way they do around Miles and his staff. For that, I will say that Miles is a better overall coach. Saban = business, Miles = business + heart + integrity. Because of this, I can see recruiting being successful for many years to come, attracting blue chip athletes with the similar winning competitive attitude and chemistry.
What really jumps out at me about this coaching staff is not only do we have more depth than at any time since I have been watching LSU football but it's quality depth. They also have done a damn good job of grooming the talent into great players
