I read what you wrote, but you still downplayed it. The regular season OOC opponents for all upper-echelon teams consist largely of rent-a-wins. Ours, however, probably had the highest concentration of legit OOC foes of all, yet we still have the opportunity to break the record.
Speaking of rent-a-wins, who's your favorite rent-a-win team? I think mine has to be UOP. I saw them on the schedule and thought...."OOPs (UOP) Who's that? It turns out that they're not very famous for football....they're famous for graduating Dave Brubeck !!! That's nice, but Southeastern Louisiana should be famous for graduating Bill Evans...but it's not. Not many people know this, but Bill Evans was the quarterback for his intramural championship team at SLU in the 50s. After that, he graduated moved to New York, became internationally famous, got hooked on heroin and committed the longest suicide known to mankind. He's buried in Baton Rouge.
I probably should have posted this in the Oregon thread !! Right before Bill Evans died, he recorded this melancholic song about his sense of loss after one of his friends and his brother died. It's his most poignant performance. It's called You Must Believe in Spring/(We Will Meet Again). It was released posthumously. Incredibly beautiful!!
Five? FIVE? Out of 38 you see 5? I rest my case. I would've definitely love to throw Miami in there but then we'd have to count Penn St. and that would screw up the party.
Go find a team that did more and then get back to us. Btw, he's leaving out WV the first time and Or St.
Not downplaying it. It is what it is, let's not make it something it's not, is all I'm sayin. Why? That has nothing to do with the point of contention here. This is about not taking things at face value. Of 38 of the wins in that "record", I'd guess at least half were gimmes. That aside, with the remainder- winning all those in a row is still a great feat. I wish we could include the ones in bowl games too but that would mess up your party.
A record is a record. Sorry if you don't think it's that impressive, but the sheer craziness of some of the wins (incl Troy in '08) ought to tell you how difficult it is to do.
