Does Texas have a bad team rep' (undisciplined/coaching), or just that they had a run of bad apples? My impression is the latter, but maybe I'm off?
Mostly the latter, run of bad apples. However, I am buds with Longhorn alum at work, and they are mixed on Mack Brown. He has done the best job restoring the program to the level of the 60's - 70's. He's the best recruiter they have had. The facilities are top flight. But he's soft on the team. The players like it at UT, they are spoon fed in many ways. But the feeling is they don't have a championship edge on them when the chips are on the line. The feeling is they only won the championship because VY was the best player in the land that year. Many Longhorn ex's that are stars in college are marginal in the NFL. Roy Williams the receiver at Detroit (course the Lions could be the problem), Griffin the safety.
Not sure how this would be good for OU, but to me it says that JaMarcus really likes LSU. However, since his parents/grandparents seem to be so involved in his life, and we've heard that his mom supposedly favors UT, that they will be pushing him there to be close to home. We're going to have to do a good job of selling our program to them, and his official visit will be crucial to get them on campus with him.
I hope Les is great with the moms. I would assume he is because with Les what you see is what you get.
Well, he lives in Lufkin, TX, (which is small town out in the middle of nowhere in East Texas, somewhat close to the Louisiana border) and--at least according to Yahoo maps--Lufkin is just as far from UT as it is LSU (it's five hours away from both). Oklahoma (Norman) is a little further, 6.5 hours away. Closer schools would be Baylor (4 hours), schools in Dallas (3.5 hours), schools in Houston (2.5 hours) and Texas A&M (2.5 hours). Assuming his parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/etc all live in Lufkin, TX, the being-close-to-home thing would be pretty much the same for LSU and Texas, and even Oklahoma somewhat. But, maybe his grandparents/aunts/uncles/etc all live in a city somewhere next to UT or Oklahoma, which is why the family would be more inclined to support him going to that school. Regardless, about his mom not letting him come to this current LSU camp... it is nice to here that his mom did let him schedule an official visit with us (and I assume his mom has made plans to come with him to this official visit). Maybe his mom wouldn't let him come to this current camp because she doesn't want him to visit any school without her being there. This could be because she wants to be just as involved in his decision as he his (which wouldn't be the case if she let him ride to this current camp alone with Shep and company). This could also be because she wants to be there with him just to make 150% sure he doesn't do a single thing to jeopardize his chance of getting a full-scholarship to go to the college of their choice.
