I can think of only two players from out of state, Shaquille O'Neal and Chris Jackson, that Brown signed that are equal to Joe Dumars, Calvin Natt, Louis Dunbar, Kerry Kittles, Orlando Woolridge, and Karl Malone.
I agree though, without gettting the top players, Brown did an excellent job when he could keep enough of the second tier players on the roster. He did sign some very good college talent but few had equal skill as the players that I mentioned. Those guys, except Dunbar, who played for the Globe Trotters, had long successful NBA careers.

Karron's looking like a Memphis lock, and Lorenzo's top 2 are Miami and UAB.

thats what I have read but I didn't know if CTJ's hiring had changed anything so if we aren't going to get those 2 then who are we targeting? and who do we have the best shot at landing

Actually, I don't think we do that bad a job of keeping the best players in the state. Bass, Davis, D. Mitchell, Warren (next year) are good examples. The guys you're talking about, though, the Monroe's and Augustin's, are the ones that transcend state talent and are among the elite in the nation. We haven't kept an in-state recruit of that calibre since Stro Swift.

Keith Gallon is starting to get a lot of attention but he still says LSU, UCLA, and OU are his leaders.

A very key AAU tourney, the Kingwood, is tipping off and here's more on Lorenzo Brown, Keith Gallon and Tommy Mason-griffin. Even more important, it's in Houston. Got to imagine that CTJ wanted to get his staff locked down, so folks could attend this thing.

Also mentioned is LSU is pursuing one of Lorenzo Brown's big men team mates. Reggie Brice.

This is the Advocate story on Morgan reconfirming his commitment to LSU, but it gives a little tidbit on CTJ's whereabouts these days... he's on the recruiting trail in Arkansas, at the Real Deal on the Hill AAU tourney.

Interesting, b/c I would have assumed he'd be in Houston at Kingwood. But, probably Butch is there, and he's in Arkansas?

There were some pretty stout prospects there at the Real Deal, but no mention of LSU so far... I notice that CTJ probably wanted a little bit of face time with Karron Johnson and he wanted to see what the Atlanta Celtics team had to offer given he's got two Celtics' alumni coming to LSU ...

The key is to start grooming the relationships early though, and these guys have to get used to seeing CTJ at these events. He's probably already got his eye on these recruits...

So, we're off to the races for 2009!!!

Ok, it seems CTJ is easing into the job as far as recruiting goes, as he's been on "meet and greet" duty and filling out his staff. With so many schollies to hand out in 2009, you've got to cast a wide net and you really can't focus all of your time on the Greg Monroes of the world. I believe there may be another Tyrus Thomas out there.

Here's some quick lists for LA and TX...

A question for me will be where else does this staff go? You hope that Butch and Richard have LA and TX well covered. But, do you stay with newly opened GA as an emphasis? Or use CTJ's contacts in Cali?

    Here are those states too...

Right now, the class has Brandon Mitchell verballed (we'll see if it sticks). Kourtney Roberson seems like an intriguing talent. Tommy-Mason Griffin, Keith Gallon, Noel Johnson are the bigger names listing LSU.
