Whats the real story on Garrett Green? I hear he is doing great & also that he can hardly walk. Does anyone know? Hearsay & a bit negative but thought you guys would like to know if you don't already... Scott McKay of {Eyeonthetigers.com} Basketball recruiting section - states that the APR according to Johnson is still a real issue that affects recruiting & keeps LSU from taking chances on borderline players, also that Mitchell is thinking seriously about going to Europe to play. That would leave LSU with only 8 scholarship players for next year.. Read his article, I don't know how to transfer it to here.. He has been crying about LSU recruiting all year - I hope things don't turn out as bad as he says it may. :geaux:

Yeah, I've been reading Scott's crying all season. It's hard to know what's the real story on Trent's recruiting considering how little local media seems to follow hoops. I do think that APR was a real issue for Trent. It was not pretty after Brady and Butch were here, and Trent is consciously trying to improve it. I can't think, however, it COMPLETELY affected his recruiting style though. He did talk to impact players, it's just perhaps he's not the slick salesman that some of these guys like Calipari are OR he's just not running the one and done kind of program that folks like Cal promote. I think we've known all along that 2009-10 was going be a challenging year. It would have been no matter what, b/c of the experience of Tas', Temple and that crew leaving, and if the old regime was here, I would not have had the confidence that kids like Spencer, Warren and Bass would get any better. I DO worry that we are still very susceptible to recruits like Galloway, Williams, Derenbrecker, etc. wanting to go out of state and downgrade the LSU offer. Some of that is just the fact that SEC hoops isn't right now where ACC or Big East hoops is, but give it one or two more years and that will change. Some of it is just that these kids want to leave--that of course makes it harder for Trent. In any case, I do agree with Trent's strategy. Focus on the LA kids, and in bordering states find kids that want to be at LSU and want to be in his system (Courtney & Stringer-Miss, Ralston Turner-AL, Noel Johnson-GA)--those kids will hopefully see what kind of coach Trent is, and his staff's ability to coach up those players and get them ready for the L.

As for next year, I'm holding out hope that Tas' comes to his senses and realizes another year of seasoning, enjoying life in college can't be bad, and he can improve his stock :thumb:. I don't know if Noel is looking at LSU more IF Tas' leaves or not, but he would definitely get more playing time at LSU than at GTech. With those guys here, and Trent's coaching, I'll take my chances next year, and all is not lost. If both of those guys are not here, we will not have a deep team and Trent will reload in 2010. Not that different than most of Brady's years.

More from ESPN on Georgia Tech and Noel Johnson... conveniently in the same piece.

Andy Katz: Gani Lawal might bypass NBA draft and return to Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - ESPN

Man, it's looking more and more crowded at GA Tech these days... :) The question is how serious is the Johnson family about LSU? I hope Rivals has it right that it's down to GT and LSU.

We're relying on the man formerly known as Chris Jackson, a former Atlanta Celtics teammate (Dennis Harris), the wise tutelage of Coach Johnson and staff, and the promise of restoring LSU to basketball greatness to sway Noel and his family to Geaux with the Tigers!

Scout has confirmed that LSU is very much in the picture with interviews with his HS coach and father.

GT seems to be the leader but LSU is not out of the picture. A decision could come as early as this week and if it does I think it will be GT.

Noel graduated on Friday and wants to take 3 visits right away and 2 of the schools will be LSU and GT. Not sure on the other.

Noel is visiting UNLV this weekend and Wichita St. might get a visit as well. He has connections to Wichita because his dad played there.

So that makes four visits lined up so far - GreenNGold?, UNLV, LSU & GT. Wonder how many more he will line up?? Seems the hope for a fast signing with LSU is not gonna happen.. This Basketball recruiting season has been kinda like a date - lots of potential, not much else.. :geaux:

I hope he doesn't decide before making it to LSU.

I could also bypass a visit to GT because I assume he has been there more than a few times given the distance from home.

He could also visit Wichita St.

Saw this, and it seems that really the family is keeping it close to the vest on who they favor. But, it's not surprising, supposedly, the Johnsons got 85 calls from schools interested in talking to Noel. Noel has to get to the LSU campus, and I hope the LSU staff/admin/fans just roll out the red carpet. Too bad he's not coming during super regional time? Sounds like Trent has to really connect with mom and dad, if they'll give him the time.

Argh. This could be huge. :geauxtige
