Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) This a recent article in the Advocate that talks mostly about the Malcolm White transfer. 2theadvocate.com | LSU Sports | Ex-Ole Miss forward White transfers to LSU — Baton Rouge, LA It's somewhat old news, but more descriptive of why Malcolm chose to come back and what he brings to the table. I think that folks have been generously listing the kid at 6'10" and 217 lb. Out of high school the kid was more like 6'8", so did he grow a couple of inches? If he's a true 6'10" (which I doubt, he's more 6'8"-6'9"), then it's likely that we're not going to see more big man signings. Does this lessen the chances that Brandon West signs and he goes the JUCO route... (who knows we're still waiting on the academic marks)? Also in there is CTJ is still looking and perhaps he's still looking to recruit someone in the spring who can help LSU. Can't kill this thread just yet! :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) The SEC was terrible this past season. It was a bad as I can remember in recent history. UF and Tennessee both have players leaving and others who are exploring NBA options. If the league is any weaker LSU should repeat as West champions.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) from what i thought from watching him this year. id say 6'8"/6'9" PF but he would likely be a better 5 defensively that lsu had this past yr.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Plus by the time White hits the floor for us, he'll probably have added 5-10 pounds of muscle, a 6'8 , 6'9 guy who weighs close to 230 sounds nice about right now.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Some very minor drama in 2009 recruiting. First, thought it was interesting that Marquette picked up it's like seventh commitment of 2009. That's interesting b/c Ledrick Eackles holds an offer from Marquette, and it's probably unlikely that he'll go there. Is he focusing on getting that offer from LSU? Second, of late there's been some drama with Renardo Sidney. The kid out of Los Angeles, who verballed to Tim Floyd and USC, is rumored to be potentially looking around again, as he and his parents made a visit to Miss St this past weekend. http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=940925 Don't know if Trent is making the calls to this kid (I would guess not, but how knows). The year's not done yet!!!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) "John Wall, the country's top unsigned high school recruit in basketball, has been charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering," what an idiot. no way ctj will take this kid now, no matter how bad he wants to be a tiger ESPN Top recruit Wall charged in break-in -ESPN Rise BOYSBASKETBALL
So, this goes in the 2009 thread simply b/c well... does this give us another schollie to think about? Trent has decided to not renew Delwan Graham's scholarship next year, which means an already depleted 2009-10 squad will be one more down... 2theadvocate.com | LSU Sports | Johnson dismisses freshman Graham — Baton Rouge, LA In addition, Tas will be working out with 3 NBA teams. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
Just saw Brandon West signed with New Mexico State! Brandon West - Basketball Recruiting ESPN has him ranked above Ludwig and now list him at 6'8 and 215 College Basketball Recruiting Prospects 2009 - ESPN
Yeah, sorry should have posted this... it happened last week. But, I was a little confounded by it all. First, it's as I posted earlier... I think reports that Brandon West was 6'10" 250 were vastly exaggerated--not even sure what to make of the reported 7'4" wingspan . I'm sure that when the LSU staff visited West in Dallas, they were able to measure him up for real. That said, he was reported to be a good athlete and live body down low. So, why not take a flier? Well, academics were supposed to be an issue. It was unlikely that he was going to have the necessary scores, so West would be a hit to the APR and potentially a problem for Trent. So, what happens? At least 5 other schools offer him and he signs with New Mexico State. I think only time will tell with this kid. How good is he really and will he stay in school are the questions? Perhaps he can be looking at a transfer back to the Bayou state after a year or two of establishing himself? Let's hope that Trent didn't burn any bridges there. In any case, what's interesting about this 2009 LA class is that the three top prospects according to ESPN/Scout are Roberson, Ludwig and West, all of whom measure now on the site at 6'8" 215lb. That means that Ludwig bulked up, West strunk, and Roberson lost weight. :hihi: What's sure is that they're all different players. Ludwig is by far the most versatile, with the ability to pass and shoot from the outside. On next year's team, that may come in very handy, as LSU will be looking for help all over the court. I'm not entirely sure why Roberson was so well regarded... he lost head to head against Ludwig in almost every meeting. Perhaps it's the "less athletic" tag, that gets Ludwig in trouble. Then, there's West. Enough said about him... again, only time will tell. There are some of us out there that still hold hope that Trent and staff will pull a rabbit out of the hat in 2009. Boy, I really would have liked to see Z. Mitchell in a Tiger uniform next year :bncry: ... maybe a couple years down the line. :yelwink2:
So, we can just about put the nail in Class of 2009's coffin. Tomorrow's the last day of the Spring signing period for hoops. This is a little bit of some old news, but should have probably put this in the thread. Laney's article this past weekend from the Advocate... 2theadvocate.com | LSU Sports | Gary Laney for May 16, 2009 — Baton Rouge, LA At the end of the day, it appears that CTJ will be saving his bullets for the Class of 2010. We are looking at a growing pains year, but potentially a surprising one, if Tas' comes back, and we get some growth and development out of Bo, Storm, Harris and Bass. It's going to be interesting folks...
