Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) all continues to be quiet on the 2009 front, to my dismay. the only skuttlebutt it appears seems to be around Ledrick Eackles, another post grad kid (like Chris Bass from last year) who plays at Hargrave Academy in VA. He continues to get interest from Div 1 schools and currently sports offers from a handful of schools, including Tulane and UAB. At 6'1 to 6'2", he can play SG and PG and can hit the three and is athletic. Look for him to continue to stay on LSU's radar... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=3666837 http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=3953353 http://www.newenglandrecruitingrepo...8/National-Championship-Belongs-to-Tilton.php
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Today the marks of the beginning of the NCAA Spring signing period, and who LSU is targeting remains a mystery. On cue, the Advocate reports today about Ledrick Eackles, who seems to suggest he won't get an offer from LSU, although LSU has done some digging. If the kid truly has an offer from the likes of Marquette, I'm wondering how bad could he be? But, read the article... only Eackles and Brandon West are mentioned... http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/43026897.html?showAll=y&c=y The real issue is CTJ won't sign anyone if he doesn't think the recruit is as good as a current reserve, which I agree with generally. That's how you develop consistency in your recruiting and stability in your program. Kids like Bass, Graham, Harris, Farrer, have to know they will get PT the next year if they put in the time to improve and then in return these kids will come back to your program--they will also hopefully get better. It's something that Brady and Butch didn't really buy into at times. On the other hand, are we really saying that Alex Farrer is someone to be reckoned with next year, as compared to a kid like Ledrick Eackles who is getting an offer from a Big East school? Not sure about that one, but I hope so. :thumb: When you read Dandy Don today, he remarks that according to whatever source he has, Trent is likely to sign one guy "by the end of the week," and potentially another one next week. Hmmmm... I'm on pins and needles!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) what is with this statement by CTJ? is farrer all that? then why didnt he play more? "He said a litmus test would be how a player would be received if he was being recruited against some of LSU’s reserves who did not play significant minutes last year. Then he said a player like Farrer would be recruited by “everybody in the country” if he were coming out of high school now."
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Eackles looks like he can shoot. Someone on the Tigerden posted this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U7j98vLZWk&feature=channel_page
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) First of all, is the video of Ledell Eackles or Ledrick Eackles? Second, if it is Ledrick, this description would match the highlight. Eackles is supposed to be a decent 3 point shooter. Also saw some nice passing in transition. The key is how does this highlight compare to someone like Langston Galloway or Brian Williams or Markel Brown?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) The Advocate reports that two of the states top players were signed by the University of Houston (Washington & Haywood5A player of year) while all is quiet at LSU. Guess these guys were not good enough? Wonder what is going on out there?? Saving them for next year I guess.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yeah, earlier in the week through various sources, it was reported that Trent was considering (and perhaps leaning that way) just not signing anyone in the Spring, and saving the scholarships for the fall. Right now, the issue is he has anywhere from 3 to 5 schollies to give in the fall, depending on what transpires this spring. He's got several prospects, including numerous LA prospects that are available in the fall of 2010 (for example, Galloway, Williams and Derenbrecker have been grabbing headlines, but what about Ron McGee, Cendric Jenkins, Markel Brown or Pat Swilling?). So, that's the dilemma for Trent. He may want to sell LSU as having the room for several of these guys, if they want to come here. He's also reserving the right until May 20th to sign someone, and today the Advocate says he might still sign someone. Presumably with kids like Brandon West and Ledrick Eackles, who state they really want a LSU offer, but may have academic issues or other issues, Trent is in wait and see mode.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Just saw where Uga is releasing Daniel Miller from his LOI, wonder if CTJ makes a run at him?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) theyve been talking about this kid around here. take it with a grain of salt, but most are skeptical of his potential because he plays in the lowest of low level competition. his size is suspect too as some list him as 6'8" (and not worth a scholly in sec) or 6'11" (and could contribute in a few yrs) id have to think he has decent potential because he also had offers from minn and gt. id guess he goes to one of those.
