Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) haha.... not really, thats why I was asking.. but I guess April is not to long to wait.. But if anyone knows more than me which is zero please post it..
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Whats the story on Trenton Marshall four star forward From Lutcher & currently attending Jones County CC in Mississippi? What happened with Brandon Mitchell of Amite - didn't he sign a football scholarship with (arkansas) someone? There has got to be some other names out there that TJ is looking at but I can't find much on Rivals or Scout.. Sure hope we don't end up with just two for 09.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yes, I saw Dandy Don's post today too... Well, hopefully he's got some inside scoop as opposed to typically Dandy Don optimism. First I think he means the spring signing period for '09--Trent would like to add one or two players. Second, if indications are right, the staff is primarily focused on JUCO targets. They want maturity and folks that can help relatively soon, so they can focus on 2010 HS recruits. Trenton Marshall is off the board... signed with Jacksonville State. Brandon Mitchell signed with Arkansas to play football. Read the earlier part of this thread for the potential names. Jenirro Bush is someone I'm watching in earnest (6-7 JUCO SF from AR). Also Adam Brown (6-3 JUCO SG from TX). If we go HS, I still like Marquez Corthton out of Bama or Brandon West out of TX. He may have a few other guys up his sleeve, and I've heard that he is not adverse to going internationally to bring a few kids in. I am hopeful though. The Tigers' NCAA showing can't hurt. :geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA. 2009-10 IS NOT A REBUILDING YEAR.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Well, whether folks are posting what I'm posting, or I'm posting what others are posting , let's just feed the frenzy. BayouBengalBlog posts a nice little juicy tidbit about none other than Brandon West out of God's Academy in TX. http://www.bayoubengalblog.com/ Based upon what his coach says, I agree that it seems like a "no-brainer" that LSU offer if true. Trent or staff needs to get on a plane and see this kid pronto. Alot of old names on this thread continuing to fester, including Rico Pickett (no thank you) and Marcus Jordan (long shot, but welcome to Tigertown MJ! :thumb as well. A new name seems to be Donte Foster, a 6-3 SG out of Oklahoma, who right now doesn't list LSU, but reportedly is considering the Tigers. Funny thing is, not sure why our JUCO friends are not getting the pub. In any case, there are a good number of JUCO kids looking for a home, and we could go after quite a few of them... Some of these names may also sound familiar to you... http://jucojunction.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=2309&Year=2009 Let's just keep our collective P&G fingers crossed, folks come April 15th... :hihi: :geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) If he can qualify West is certainly a must have. 6-10 245 sounds like a good prospect and wants to come to LSU.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Rico Pickett, according to Rivals, no longer lists LSU... he's down to a final four of Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee and Manhattan. http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=93182 Perhaps he was reading our boards? :hihi: Seriously, the staff must be on the road and the next couple of weeks are going to be big in terms of visits and evaluations. Brandon West seems to be a guy getting a lot of "board" traffic, but the key will be his academics. Who knows which JUCO guys are getting the most LSU attention. There is also a lot buzz of whether Trent NEEDS to sign one, or two, folks this spring, in light of what could be a big class in 2010. I think if Brandon qualifies, you jump on a chance at a 6'10" 240 ish guy (although his actual height and weight are a mystery based upon various reports) b/c that bulk/size is not something that comes around all that often. Most of our 2010 targets max out at 6'8". Then, the question is do you need to sign another scorer on the outside at the expense of having room for Galloway, Derenbrecker, Williams, Odeyiji and/or Pressey (Courtney has a spot, and really, there may only be 2-4 spots beyond that, depending on what happens this spring)? Right now, Jenirro Bush doesn't list LSU (nor does he have an offer) but Southern Miss is a leader. Adam Brown isn't even rated, which is kind of a surprise given his scoring averages and shooting %s. The next couple of weeks will be a roller coaster in terms of LSU hoops 2009 recruiting! :dis:
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) if we get marcus jordan maybe dad would forkover $$$ so LSU could keep the scholly
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) God's Academy is under NCAA investigation at this time. I'd not touch that with a 400 foot pole.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) While this is not on point LSU recruiting news, I believe this has some recruiting implications... it appears that Alabama has zeroed in on a replacement for Mark Gottfried... and it is Anthony Grant. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4014984 I'm not sure I like this so much. Not just because this was a guy that LSU reportedly was interested in last year, but actually b/c the guy's a good coach and good recruiter. Another young, up and coming coach in the mold of Darrin Horn and Andy Kennedy that enters the SEC. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Trent Johnson and clearly he's done well coaching this LSU team and he can certainly stand on his own against the competition (which doesn't bring his credentials or experience). But, from a recruiting standpoint, he needs to set foot in places such as AL to ultimately be (very) successful at LSU, and part of me wonders if the kids of today gravitate to the "Jeff Capels" of the world (i.e., younger coaches). Hitting that west AL area is a potential target for LSU, and it probably doesn't help that Bama land a good coach quickly.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) i think the jury is still out on if he is a good coach. he has the pedigree, but it means next to nothing. he's a young black guy that may be able to recruit the South well, but how did heath and felton work out? he did very well in a minor league, but that may have largely been because he had a dominant player (whom he did not recruit). even if he is very good i wouldnt be worried. lsu just has to recruit N.O.
