Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, I suppose you're being sarcastic? Seriously though, as we hope and pray for some difference maker in 2009, watch out for this name... Joevoskie Mitchell, 6'3-4" SG out of Zwolle in LA. A 2009 recruit with potential academic hurdles, but SKEELS, and LSU was rumored to be attending one of his games earlier this week. Just to give you a flavor, here's a blog from a recent LA high school hoops tourney. The future is bright for LA ballers, CTJ's just got to tap the pipelines big time. http://texasbasketballinc.blogspot.com/2009/02/lousiana-hall-fo-fame-games.html
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) In fact, he's verballed to Syracuse. Just reported by Scout. So, scratch another big man off the list. Honestly, Riley was a little rough and being from MI, I'm just not sure how fruitful it's going to be to keep throwing offers at kids from the Midwest to North Midwest. I know Brent Scott is from that area, but until a kid actually makes it down here and commits, it's rough going. Focusing on the Southeast and Southwest is more fruitful. Speaking of which the staff is definitely combing the JUCO ranks, both in Texas and Florida now. A top 6'4" JUCO SG named Casey Mitchell is getting attention from LSU, but the kid's reportedly high on West Virginia. There are also a few 6'8" ish big men in the Florida JUCO ranks that LSU is at least looking at. Not alot to write about, LSU is out there scouting kids and trying to get on some kids that can contribute sooner rather than later. Good news is, there are still a lot of difference makers that one can sign in the spring. Bo Spencer, Tyrus Thomas, Chris Bass, were all spring signees....
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, who is this kid? And, is CTJ looking at him? Brandon West, a 6'8" 215 lb PF playing at a High school in TX but is from Baton Rouge: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ng/tracker/player?recruitId=82829&season=2009
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, while the Tigers have an up and down Saturday--they lose to Auburn in essentially a game for Auburn to make its case for a NCAA tourney bid, and a chance for the Tigers to gain more motivation for the post season that lies ahead... but they gain a 2010 recruiting pledge from Jalen Courtney out of Mississippi. They also officially lose out on Demarcus Cousins, who as expected is reported today as picking Memphis officially. This was not a big surprise, but tells you perhaps when CTJ went to Alabama within the last week, perhaps Trent was not visiting DC? We can only guess. It basically then leaves us with very little ground on a spring signing "above" the radar now. Not sure what CTJ has up his sleeve, but let's hope there is something there. :geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) http://www.maxpreps.com/texas/baske...d-4c08-b687-afb41d9f9601&urpath=,local,player West numbers look pretty good... Maxpreps says he's 6'10... I can tell you the league he's playing is not real competitive as far as the DFW area but looks like they play schools out of the area I see Laurinburg prep, NC and they always have a solid team, West had 19 pts and 15 reb... says he's long and athletic.... he's got my vote for under the radar player with upside... hope CTJ and staff take a look at this kid!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yeah, those are some interesting tidbits. If i remember correctly perhaps this thread even mentions West much earlier in the recruiting year, b/c of the Baton Rouge connection... but I'm surprised to see that the guy is still on the board. If he's really 6'10" no doubt we should be looking at him. In any case, 2009 remains to be a mystery to me, considering that momentum in 2010 and 2011 is starting with Courtney and Isaac. Now word is that with Demarcus' commitment to Memphis, they are hot on the heels of another guy who has been on LSU's radar but dropped off a while ago, Latavious Williams (still not sure why this guy originally from MS, now playing prep school ball in TX, plays on Brandon Bass's AAU team, and plays PF doesn't want to consider LSU amongst his leaders). Kryrl N is in the news (as in still not considering LSU although undeclared), as is Casey Mitchell who, as expected, committed to West Virginia. We got to get some more live bodies ready to play next year, CTJ. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=922296
