Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) We don't know the details to make an informed opinion. Maybe his team was out of contention for making the championship. Maybe doctors advised him to have the surgery before doing further damage.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) How in the heck can you say Dotson is fighting for nothing? He's fighting for a chance to be able to play college basketball. Having surgery now is his best option for that, if he was to wait it out and keep playing he would taking a chance on messing his knee up more than it already is.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) as his physician, you know you can get into a lot of trouble releasing his medical info like that.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, back to recruiting... Not sure this is truly recruiting, but there was a recent article coming out of the Bay Area about ole CTJ, and the fact that he is still connected to and rooting for the player he recruited and coached at Stanford. Nice little piece that takes LSU hoops news to the West coast. Interestingly, here's a quote from Tony Bennett, the coach of Washington State, who ironically was also one of the men rumored to be approached about the LSU job... "He has them playing sound and disciplined defensively, and as time goes on he'll get more of his style of players," said Washington State coach Tony Bennett, whose team lost to LSU in late December. "I know he has been well received. My wife's from down there and all the in-laws are excited about how hard they're playing under Trent. He's had a nice effect." So, what's interesting to me is, I guess we're all sitting here and hoping for that 5-star recruit to fall into our lap, much like we were under the old regime. Perhaps there's something to this "recruit players that fit your system" thing? But, then, I wonder, what players "fit" his system? Obviously, Dotson and Ludwig would seem to fit. I've been hypothesizing that ultimately, CTJ would like to have versatile but cerebral players in his system, who can defend, hustle, play smart, and build a team with balance--both skilled bigs to dump the ball down to, but also good shooting and penetrating guards that can go with that with motion and screening. As I watched Georgetown, who is sort of in a tailspin in the Big East, play this weekend, I kept wondering if a Greg Monroe, would have taken LSU more seriously with CTJ at the helm. Part of me wants to say yes, b/c quite honestly, I believe CTJ's staff would have been so much better for him than Brady's staff, and quite possibly, better for him than the Princeton styled offense that JTIII is running. But, that remains the question. Until CTJ gets that signature star recruit (or perhaps he doesn't need one:huh, we'll be wondering if he can win the SEC/NC with his players. I believe he can, but I think 2009 is sort of wrapping up, and short of a JUCO signing (like Jenirro Bush perhaps?), maybe a project signing (GS Mcgee?), and think you can look forward to CTJ trying to coach "up" guys like Storm Warren, Chris Bass, Delwan Graham, Dennis Harris and Garrett Green for next year. 2010 is a class we can look to in earnest as CTJ will be able to put is signature on a full boat load of players that will be recruited to run his system. :geauxtige BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA. for those that want to read the article... http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_11694134?IADID=Search-www.mercurynews.com-www.mercurynews.com
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Here's a good link: http://www.mercurynews.com/collegesports/ci_11684516 Here's a great quote from the article as well: Kudos to Coach Johnson for managing the schedule in this manner. While our RPI might not be the best, it's better to have kids eligible to play in the tournament at a lower seed. :thumb:
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) all this sounds fine but the next two seasons could hurt. these teams will be young and inexperienced and the only ways to make up for it is to recruit 5-stars, or get jucos/transfers. ctj doesnt seem to believe in the problems with inexperience and he certainly knows a helluva lot more about it than me, but i find it hard to buy. the saving grace will be having tas and bo. possibly all LSU will need to be decent next year is a shooter.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Well, with spring signing fast approaching, might as well close a chapter with respect to a couple of kids LSU was thought to be recruiting. According to ESPN and others, Renardo Sidney will report which school he's going to tomorrow at 4 p.m., and it's likely going to be USC. Not too surprising, but with the grades not being there, and the general shady/desparate tactics of Mr. Floyd at 'SC lead to another talented, but troubled kid signing with the Trojans. Who knows, though, right? Also ESPN gives the latest on the top unsigned recruits in the 2009 class. Of the kids that at one point in time listed LSU, only Dashonte Riley remains listing LSU, although there are a ton of schools vying for his attention and a closer to MI school is likely to get him. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=3920883 So, the question now is, will there be ANY spring signing at all? With a SEC championship soon under his belt, and a SEC COY award, Trent has got to be wondering are any of these recruits paying attention?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) And, as a follow up, CTJ has got to be looking for big guys, scorers, and a little something extra for '09, right? Here are the top unsigned in nearby areas that might fill some needs? Nick James, 6'10" C from Houston, TX Eric Georgatos, 6'9" C from Dallas TX (team mate of Phil Pressey :wink Tony McGilveary, 6'5" SF from DFW area. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ll&status=0&toggle=state&season=2009&state=TX Ledrick Eackles, 6'3" SG from LA Although not listed below, there's 6'9" N.O. recruit, Gregoryshaun Magee, still out there http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ll&status=0&toggle=state&season=2009&state=LA Some kids from MS... Latavious Williams, still on the board and don't know how LSU dropped out of contention... Baylor reportedly leads. Jenirro Bush, 6'7" SF in JUCO still lists LSU. Julysses Nobles, 6'1 PG from MS Chris Brand/Emery Kelley, both 6'7" ish frontcourt players (the latter goes to the same school as Jalen Courtney a 2010 recruit). http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ll&status=0&toggle=state&season=2009&state=MS What about this kid from AL (not named D. Cousins)... Marquiez Corthton, 6'9" 205 PF with skills... http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recr...ng/tracker/player?recruitId=55532&season=2009 Seems like LSU needs to close in on some these guys and see if any of them fit the bill? LSU has been recruiting Bush for a while it seems, a JUCO scorer/defender on the wing would seem to fit in nice. And another name that we haven't heard surface in a while is Trenton Marshall, another JUCO kid who's a scorer.
