Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) It looks like we might have to go the JUCO route for a big man in this class if nothing happens with Sidney.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yes. Things are looking slightly grim. Cousins has seemed to pick his top 5 and LSU is not on it. Sidney, depending on your sources, has either excluded LSU as well from contention (Rivals' view) or may still have LSU in his top 3. Either way with his academics, I'm not sure there's a sure thing there either way. Riley is still out there, but reports are that he's not eager to visit Bayou country, and the Russian from FL seems to favor heading west. I'm just scratching my head a little bit. LSU doing phenomenally well, with little to no depth coming in next year, breaking ground on a brand new practice facility, and a top-notch staff that can flat out coach. I suppose we can hope that Dennis Harris will surprise next year. But, word is also that Garrett Green is considering back surgery and Dotson, as stated before, will be having surgery too. We're storing up momentum for 2010 perhaps? But, you'd like to see us not lose too much momentum next year on the court. It doesn't make too much sense to me... At this rate, we'll have room for Pressey, Galloway, Williams, Derenbrecker, Odejiyi, plus some...
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) i'll bet ctj generally has a tougher time with the kids than the parents. that emphasizing education thing wont appeal to most top recruits.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) what the hell? Jaime ****ing left the team in the middle of the season to go see a doctor in Miami. Dotson doesn't play for LSU yet. Why would LSU fans get mad at Aaron for hanging it up on his high school career?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) No doubt, there's a big difference between CTJ's strategy of team first, get an education, and CJB's strategy of we'll do everything we possibly can to get you to the NBA. I'd like to think that doing things the right way can still appeal to kids today... I guess it only works if you're Duke or UNC, right? Kidding aside, I think CTJ's demeanor and no-nonsense attitude make it a little hard for kids to connect to him perhaps, but those that are smart will see that CTJ is a heck of a coach and gets the best out of his players. Just ask Marcus Thornton, Tas' Mitchell, Bo Spencer, etc.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Is Dotson's HS team in the middle of a stretch run to a tournament? Was Dotson suspended for breaking a teammate's jaw?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Where's the Beef?? I'm guessing TJ is asking himself the same thing as far as LSU getting the inside track on a "big man" to play center next year. I remember Dale Brown pulled them in from everywhere, Europe, the Bahamas & I heard at one time he was looking for Big Foot!! Come on Coach, Get us some beef for next year!!! Surely there is someone in Europe that is interested in both playing ball & getting a education...
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) The similarity is that you've got two players with injuries that choose to get treatment/surgery in the middle of the season. That's about it. A few key differences are, Dotson is in HIGH SCHOOL, and we have no idea what their HS team and coach are saying. Let's be fair, ask any HS coach about whether the HS team should come before one of its star hoops players playing Div 1 ball and being ready. He's a good player on anotherwise talented team that is still competitive. In Lloreda's case, you could make the same case, he was protecting a NBA future. BUT, it was the way he did it. He feuded with Brady publicly, refused to go into games, and the need for surgery was a little more suspect. Lloreda ended up not being drafted and clearly was all about himself during the process. I don't think Dotson's anywhere close, and him having the procedure in B.R. clearly to me means he consulted with CTJ, who in turn probably consulted with Aaron's family about the whole thing...
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) lloreda was fighting for his career. dotson is fighting for nothing. without knowing any details, id think he should play out the season then have surgery. he can always redshirt in college. lloreda couldnt redshirt in the nba.
