I'm not sure who Barron is, but I guess I'd quibble with you about Dorsey. No doubt that the kid is athletic, and b/c of Memphis's run, he got drafted well for his overall package. But, he's been a non-factor for Houston so far:

You could argue that Glen Davis is a better player for LSU and Brady did very little with him. The Lopez brothers, under Trent's tutelage, are both doing better than Dorsey. No doubt Calipari can recruit, but his style is better for guards and wings and you could make the case with folks like Rose, they were already good to begin with.

went from bench player to very good starter (probably all conf)

ok, but i guess it depends on what a kids goals are. i was thinking that if a coach gets you drafted at a good spot then thats all you can ask. the rest is up to you, but, sure, a coach can prepare a player for the NBA, i guess.

Is Cousin's coach trying to keep LSU out of the picture?

Not sure but even if he is it doesn't matter from what I am hearing.

    Pretty much a Memphis lock.

If Memphis was suck a lock then why commit to UAB in the first place. Don't underestimate what Trent Johnson can do and the close distance LSU is from the Mobile area. From what I'm hearing, LSU stands a great chance in landing the kid. My question to you, what centers in the NBA have played at Memphis State? At least Johnson can boast that he coached the Lopez twins whom were both first round draft picks.

He would be 1 and done anyway. Sure it would be nice to have a talent like that, but let's get some kids who will at least be in the program for more than 1 year.

i dont like the sound of this. most LSU fans gave lloreda hell over a similar situation.

"Aaron Dotson's going to be here tonight and have surgery Monday to have his knee cleaned up," Johnson said at Thursday's press briefing. "He wants to shut down his high school career. It's not a bad surgery, just to get something cleaned up as opposed to play on a leg and a half. . . get himself ready to play collegiate basketball."

Just heard that the surgery is for a broken knee cap. That is good news in terms of lingering problems.

    "Next step for LSU

What prospects will LSU be bringing in this next year, and how is the recruitment of Renardo Sidney going?

    -- Robert from Shreveport, La.
    -----

Trent Johnson has made a quick impact on LSU basketball.
Coming off a huge double-overtime win at Mississippi State, LSU is 20-4 overall and owns a two-game lead in the SEC West. Trent Johnson once again is proving his prowess as a coach, and what ultimately will determine the success of the Tigers' program is how well Johnson and his staff can recruit in the Southeast.

In his first go-round recruiting for LSU, Johnson went to the West Coast for four-star prospect Aaron Dotson and mined his own backyard for three-star prospect Eddie Ludwig. Dotson, from Seattle, is a strong-bodied shooting guard with a solid all-around game. At one time, he appeared destined for Louisville, but Johnson was able to lure him down to the bayou. Ludwig, from the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, is a skilled 6-foot-8 power forward who wasn't a high-profile recruit. But his high basketball IQ should help him flourish in Johnson's system.

This 2009 class isn't an overly impressive class, but if Johnson is able to keep the best of Louisiana at home and also recruit nationally, he should bring in the caliber of players he needs to stay atop the SEC West.

As for Sidney, LSU has taken a stab at trying to land the top-10 prospect. But Sidney, a Mississippi native who goes to high school in Los Angeles, doesn't have LSU on his latest list of schools, which includes UCLA, USC, UNLV, Mississippi State and Texas. If Sidney gets a qualifying ACT or SAT score this spring, look for him to go to either UCLA or USC. "
