Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) absolutely need instant help. getting someone that can fill the hoop is probably even more important than post play. itll be interesting to see ctj's strategy---will he go the juco route?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Good point we do have a lot of combos in our back yard for 2010! I just hope those bigs are not out of reach it would be nice to have a big banger next year!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Interesting enough, Rivals now lists a no-star SG on the LSU 2009 recruiting list, Charles Winbourne. This kid was mentioned earlier in this thread actually-- a 6-2 SG from Loyola in Shreveport (I think) who had verbaled to go to Centenary, but (and I couldn't confirm this last night) doesn't appear to have signed his LOI. This kid is supposed to be a very athletic, scoring guard, who also plays some point--from what I've seen on the web has had many 30+ point nights. No one lists him having a LSU offer, but I wonder if this is someone CTJ watches for the rest of the season. There are plenty of LA guards that go unnoticed every year and make Div 1 rosters. Remember Bo Spencer was a spring signing. So, could this kid be an under the radar kid? Obviously, LSU is also looking at the Juco prospect Kashiff Carr, too. There's still a lot of recruiting that could be done. Also, according to my count, we've got 5 seniors on this team, and even with Dotson and Ludwig, we'd have only 11 schollies used up. The year after, we'd lose another 4. So, I think that we could actually sign 2 more kids this spring comfortably, with room for 4 more 2010 signees. There's flexibility to move this spring on kids we really like, for sure. :geauxtige BEAT MISSISSIPPI STATE. PACK THE PMAC!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) hey, parrish went to centenary, right? so there is hope for him. just to make sure---lsu does have the full slate of schollies available now, right? the premature departures of koundja, davis, neltner and rolle have all been accounted for?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Just saw a Slidell pg showed up on our rivals list Daron Populist http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=91592 has some decent video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1kmgveinhg
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yeah, saw that he was listed now--thanks for the video. Not a bad highlight, but it's mostly of him draining the wide open three. Also seems to have some handle, but most of the video is of him dribbling out top and not breaking down his man. A couple of nifty passes, but I would have liked to see more footage of him driving and dishing. Nevertheless, how does he compare against Bass? Probably a better outside shot? Coach TJ and staff can coach him up. I think they are looking for those diamonds in the rough. Pressey appears to be a better passer tho'.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Wow. Have to pull away from recruiting (for just a sec) and say, this team is really coming together. The rest of the SEC cannot just be bad, right? South Carolina beats UF last night. This Miss St team beat Arkansas in the SEC and has beaten some non-conference BCS schools. It just goes to show that a 6-7, 235 lb small forward with heart CAN play PF in college, a skinny 205, 6'11" center can play in the SEC, and a 6-2 SG converted to PG CAN dominate other SEC PGs, if you have the right coach. But, don't just listen to me, I guess that's the sentiment of our BBBlogger... http://www.bayoubengalblog.com/ What is an interesting recruiting take away is that sure enough, LSU is giving Populist a good look. At this point, I'm not questioning CTJ. Populist appears to be a pretty nice shooter, with decent handle, and if he can break down the defense and learn CTJ's system, it does give him some flexibility to move Bo back to SG so we can take advantage of his shooting. This other JUCO guy, J Bush, also may be a find, if he can give us depth at the 3 spot. Like we said, spring signing should be interesting. :geauxtige PACK THE PMAC.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) This might not be the right thread, but is Denniss Harris redshirting this year?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Coach TJ is the real deal folks...get used to winning early and often. My LSU buddy here in Carolina is friends with Alleva...Alleva said this hire is top shelf, and LSU BB truly exciting in 2-3 years. Just wait, we ain't seen nothing yet... Alleva said Trent will do things the right way on all phases of overseeing a BB program... cough cough, not like before If you just listen to TJ speak, he is positive with the players at every chance he gets.. Brady was always throwing towels and screaming in frustration.. the contrast is so easy to see...and results are already being realized
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) I agree, Alleva will will watch over the bball program more than football and baseball, Miles and Maineri run those programs as it is right now. I see Alleva wanting to turn the bball program into a national power, and with CTJ as the head coach, I see no reason why that can't happen.
