Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Dude! Aaron Dotson commits! http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/32402604.html
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Look at Trent Johnson go: He's going hard after Renardo Sydney, a top PF from California. That would be an amazing get. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=41967
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Ludwig and Dotson signed today, Brad Reese ended up at Texas Tech, Any chance we sign anyone else during the spring signing period?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) At this point, it's really hard to say, but it's a possibility that the staff will wait and evaluate. Right now, there is movement a foot to focus on big men... the big Euro-kid, Kyryl Nayahtzko, out of Florida is getting his academics in order and he's looking at LSU amongst several others. Top 15 kind of recruit, Renardo Sidney, from Fairfax in L.A., CA is reportedly interested in LSU and Miss St due to ties to the south, despite getting what is sure to be a lot of heat from UCLA and USC and oddly, UVa. But, this is a kid that's also got to get things right in the classroom and who has talked about potentially going straight to pro-ball in one of the Euro leagues. So, these signings at this point are a little bit of a long shot. However, I think it really comes down to what CTJ sees on the court this year. There's no doubt that we'll have depth issues next season once our bevy of Seniors leave. But, how big of a gap filler do you need with (presumably) Tas' coming back, and some relatively young but talented kids in the wings. I think CTJ seems to like the progress that Garrett Green has made (although with this lower back issues, he may be heading to a redshirt this year, and let's hope he improves for next year). And, guys like Storm Warren will get PT this year. Dennis Harris will probably get a redshirt and hopefully bullk up for more PT next year. You add to that mix Aaron Dotson and Eddie Ludwig and you hopefully try to bridge for a big class in '10.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, it's been deathly quiet on the recruiting front for hoops with the season in full swing and the Tigers at a nice 6-0 start... or has it? According to some sources, Trent's search for a big man has continued, and it goes beyond the targets of Renardo Sidney and Kryrl Nayahtzko. If rumors are true, it appears that Trent's staff has uncovered a couple more big men. Dashonte Riley, a decommit from Georgetown, is a 6-10, 220 lb MI kid that is a Scout top 75 kid. Another sleeper, Brandon West, is a Philly kid who is sort of under the radar--another 6-9, 225 big who can supply muscle underneath. Both of these kids have multiple suitors along with LSU, so it's way too early to tell, but clearly, Trent would like to add a big kid to the 2008-9 mix. With the redshirting of both Garrett Green and Dennis Harris this year, and the likely signings of mostly wings and guards in the horizon, LSU will have a young frontline in '09. That's not to say we won't be good, b/c there's potential there--it'll just be untested. :geauxtige
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Not sure what to make of Renardo Sidney. According to ESPN, he's not listing LSU anymore, rather, Miss St is the only non-Pac 10 school under consideration. The kid's got talent, for sure, and would probably catupult LSU's '08 class into the rankings. http://beta.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=3757673 That said, not sure how much Trent NEEDs this guy. Kind of a questionable attitude and trying too much to be a "soft" 4 for the NBA scouts? The other day I got to see ole Bobo Morgan formerly a LSU recruit now a UCLA player, play against the 'Horns. All I got to say is he was WAY overrated. UCLA might have had him in the game for 2 minutes. He was slow and lumbering and didn't really impress me. That's perhaps a fish better off getting away. Clearly, the state of the college game is to going to the quicker, 6'9'-6'10, 220-240 lbs, more versatile PFs as opposed to the Shaq' in the middle. You want a big man down low, but only if he's quick and has a good motor (see Tyler H and others who dominate in the college ranks and then might not do so well in the pros). Perhaps the ideal would be a Blake Griffin or Michael Beasley. I'd be happy with a couple good 6'9-6'10" bigs to play along side each other in the future. Can Dennis Harris and Garrett Green be those guys?
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Well, if the A&M game is any indication, Dashonte, take a good hard look at the Tigers. You will get SERIOUS playing time as a Tiger, and develop under the tutelage of CTJ and his staff. According to ESPN, this big man is indeed considering LSU. This could be a huge get in the Spring, as the pieces of the puzzle are falling in place, but a big man in the middle is dearly needed... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/notebook?page=hallpass/081217 This is should be a huge focus for Trent in the Spring. Landing one quality big (emphasis on the BIG) man should be priority one. :geaux:
