Looks like Trent's pursuit of a 2009 big man signee heats up. Scout is now reporting that LSU has lobbed in an offer to FL big man, Kyryl Natyazhko:

At 6'10", 240 lbs, he brings much needed size to the Tigers' front line who loses Chris Johnson and QT next year, and doesn't really have much size on the recruiting board. This Euro-kid is probably a little bit of a project, but is a 4 star recruit that showed hustle and heart on the AAU circuit.

Seems like things are still good with Dotson as well, CTJ is doing a excellent job so far when it comes to getting interest for Lsu it seems.

According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, Eddie Ludwig committed today to LSU

    http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/356756783/

After five official visits stretching from the East to the West Coast, Country Day forward Eddie Ludwig decided to remain close to home.

The Class 1A All-State Outstanding Player for 2007-’08 made an early verbal commitment Monday, picking LSU instead of four out-of-state colleges.

Ludwig, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound senior, led the Cajuns to the Class 1A state finals in each of the past two seasons. After averging 13.5 points as a sophomore, he increased his average to 23.2 points per game along with 13.5 rebounds as a junior.

Ludwig also visited Wake Forest, California-Berkley, Davidson and Vanderbilt and made an unofficial trip to Tulane. He is academically qualified with a 2.8 grade-point average.

“He felt like he wanted to stay in state,” said Country Day Coach Mike McGuire. “He had really liked LSU his whole life. I was not surprised he picked them. And they wanted him badly.

“(LSU) Coach (Trent) Johnson loved his mobility and his skills.”

Ludwig was the District 10-1A MVP and was selected to the All-Metro team as a junior. The Cajuns finished 29-12 and 25-15 the past two seasons. He will be eligible to sign during the early period in November.

well that makes 2 commits in 2 weeks, maybe Dotson makes it official next week and we can all call that a great month for CTJ.

    Terrific news!

Look I know some folks are going to think this is might be a little bit of a reach but, I've been thinking with respect to Eddie Ludwig... was Ricky Blanton a reach? Honestly, at 6'7+" 190+, Ludwig has some interesting skills. When you watch him, he didn't average 23+ ppg and 13+ rpg at Country Day without some skills. The kid can knock down a perimeter shot, isn't afraid to mix it up in side and block some shots, passes the ball pretty well and hits his FTs. When matched up against more publicized interior player Kourtney Roberson in games, Eddie stood out and has the ability to play clutch in big games.

I think what Trent signs is a good player, who isn't going to bolt for the NBA in two years, but is going to fill a role, get better every year and contribute. This cannot be underestimated in the new TEAM first concept that Trent's pushing :hihi:. You can also think of Ludwig as perhaps a more perimeter oriented Ricky Blanton. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It is also a good LA kid signing. Need to establish that hometown momentum going into next year and I think Ludwig starts that.

Good job, Trent and welcome aboard Eddie!

    Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009)

For the hard core college hoops recruiting followers (and goodness, the season is coming soon!), some other non-LSU (but sort of related to LSU) hoops recruiting tidbits to pass along:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/onthetrail

First, while Trent was reportedly trying to get into the game late with 6'10" center Daniel Orton out of OK, Orton has committed to another SEC school, Kentucky. This gives Billy G a pretty nice class with Jon Hood and Daniel Orton as anchors for his 2009 class. And, man, a few years from now the SEC really starts to look like a serious basketball conference with Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and LSU right up there :geaux:

Secondly, GA SG that at one point listed LSU, Brandon Reed, has committed to none other than Mr. Brady himself. He signs up probably to be the headliner recruit for John Brady and his assistant coach Chad Dollar, whose GA ties leads to this surprising landing.

Various news reports come out of Dallas, since Aaron Dotson was at SMU this past weekend. Dotson probably remains hottest on Trent's list, and I still like our chances. Most of the news coming out of SMU has Dotson politely responding to questions about the Mustangs program, but not wildly enthusiastic. Donny G is going to be visiting Aaron in-home this week, before probably the most crucial visit this weekend, with Louisville. I hope we'll hear soon after that about Aaron. The nice thing we have against Louisville is that Aaron's essentially been told that he wouldn't start there, much less get a lot of PT. Pitino though, has been turning on the recruiting heat, as they've been very active this year and should have a tremendous '09 and '10 classes. Dotson needs to go with the Tigers.

Other than that, Trent has been more quiet about the big men spots. I haven't seen much of anything on Latavious Williams. Two other Euro-bigs, Kryrl N and Deniz Kilicli, have LSU offers but yet to line up visits. If we sign one of these kids, the class goes from pretty interesting to very interesting and likely a top 20 class.

Deniz Kilicli a 6'9" PF from W. Va, who got hot real fast, also committed real fast. Bob Huggins of local WVA locked up Kilicli after the visit this past weekend. So, consider one of LSU's big men targets off the board...

So, does anyone know what Latavious Williams is up to?

So, someone at Rivals is listening to me... unfortunately the news isn't that good. There's a reason that Latavious' name hasn't been coming up, as he's been trying to get his academics in order and he's moved prep schools. He's no longer in MD and now has moved to Humble, TX. As a result, surprising Baylor is in the lead, with Memphis and Florida State trailing. Not sure how or why LSU is not longer in the picture, but man, he could be an impact player for Trent's Tigers... This may leave Trent essentially with Aaron Dotson and to some extent (yet to be truly determined) Kryrl Natyazkho. Let's land those guys and then we can turn our attention to 2010.

    Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009)

As Trent's men's program starts practice today off-site in Pineville, in a new environment and routine for this program, there's been a lull in the staff's recruiting efforts. However, this is a key weekend for recruiting as Aaron Dotson, the 6-4 SG from Seattle, finally visits Louisville, which many suspect are frontrunning with LSU for Dotson's attention.

Rivals talked to Dotson before the trip: http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=863751.

The bad news is when you actually look at Louisville's roster, there's this odd Seattle WA connection, as Terrence Williams and recent commit Peyton Siva have ties to the area and/or Dotson. That can't help. The saving grace is that Dotson still reports that he's not got a leader. Don't forget also his home school of Washington who gets the last visit next weekend.

Let's hope we survive this weekend....

The more I think about it, the more disappointed I'll be if we don't find a bonafide big man to sign. Why, Kourtney Roberson, why?
