Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Yeah, you can't really find too much on him, b/c he's a JUCO kid. But, based upon what I've read, he's sort of a late bloomer. He was a 6-6 2nd team FL all-state kid who played center in high school. He signed originally with SE LA (so there's a little bit of a LA connection) but didn't end up going there and went to JUCO in FL near home. In the JUCO world, I guess he started to develop as more of an all-round player, and they let him roam outside more. His freshman stats look to be fairly decent: 16.7 ppg, 4 rpg, about a 42% FG% and 70s% FT%, and about 34% from 3 land (made 63 3s in 30 games played and started, so clearly he took outside shots). He clearly showed an aptitude to shoot from the outside, but has a 7'1" wingspan. What's more telling is the number of offers and interest he got from relatively big programs: Iowa State, Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, OSU, etc. I think when all is said and done, he'll probably be considered on some All-JUCO teams... and we saw what kind of impact Marcus Thornton made. Brad may not be as highly regarded as Trenton Marshall, but I'm not sure how they compare--haven't seen either play. Reese may be a second or third teamer All JUCO, I've heard Marshall is a first teamer. Hard to tell with JUCOs. What may also be interesting is a pretty long thread about Reese on an OU board. You screen out the OU vs. OSU nonsense and you get to your tidbits on Reese. Sounds like he may or may not have been given the greatest treatment in OSU's recruitment given their offer/scholarship situation... http://ouinsider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72717 At the end of the day, I think Reese is a solid pick up. Given the lack of scoring power from the wings after Thornton, Martin and Temple leave, a guy like Reese will certainly get playing time at LSU. Also, in Trent's new "controlled fastbreak" scheme, a 6-6 guy like Reese will probably be a pretty versatile fit for depth along side Tasmin Mitchell and Delwan Graham. You look at him and/or Ludwig at that spot (Ludwig, for his credit has very decent HS stats as well). Dotson would be ideal as a true SG, and then if LSU signs an interior player--Trent's a happy camper.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) ran across this http://www.collegecoaches.net/blog/page/Junior-College-Hoopers-Get-Major-Attention.aspx Its a camp in OK for jucos. The video kinda sucks but its free and there is footage of Brad Reese, Trenton Marshall and Jeramey Jacobs. I only watched about the first five min of the games with tiger recruits. One game T Marsh starts out with a 3 and a nice dunk. And Reese does appear to have a nice touch from outside

Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Reese is down to LSU and Texas Tech and finished with visits for now. LSU looks to be in very good shape.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) So, more news on hoops recruiting.... First, the reason that Dexter Fields cancelled his trip to Tiger town this weekend, is he committed to UAB on Tuesday night (so he's officially off the board). One of their recruits backed out of a commitment and they swooped in on Dexter. I think most likely Dexter like UAB to begin with and Mike Davis has been doing a nice job recruiting wise there against 'Bama. Also, Bawa Muniru commits to Indiana... And, Louisville is turning up the heat on Aaron Dotson. In house visits with Rick Pitino and a visit coming up in early October. LSU is still in the hunt, but we are going to need to put on the full court press!
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Reese has committed to LSU according to Shipp.http://louisianastate.scout.com/
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) This is great news! It seemed like that was where it was going, so it's not a shock... but in many ways, it's certainly a relief. Trent gets his first 2008-9 commit, and it'll end up being one of the better JUCO players. Again, not too shabby that Bama, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Ok State and others were offering. I guess what this does though is it puts a little bit of pressure on Ludwig. Reese is a JUCO so, it leaves him with only two years at LSU. Does Ludwig, who arguably plays the same position (maybe leaving him a little bit of flexibility to play "bigger" in LSU's system), now disfavor the Tigers? In any case, this is what Reese had to say about LSU per Rivals: "I mean, in the end it was tough coming down to LSU and Texas Tech. That's two good schools, but with LSU my family can come watch me play. It helps that it's close to home. "I'm going to be playing small forward for them and they have three or four guys leaving where I'm going to be playing, so I know I can get on the court. The coaching staff was big for me to. I've got a real good relationship with them and I feel like I can trust them with my future. In the end it just came down to feeling most comfortable with LSU." Pay attention kids. Trust Trent. :geauxtige
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Honestly, I don't think alot has changed. Jacob is going the JUCO route. He has publicly stated some interest in LSU and coming home. But, right now, Trent is probably focusing on 2009-10 high school recruiting. My sense is that they're keeping tabs on Jacob and in wait and see mode.
Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009) Rivals has been following up with Aaron Dotson, and recently this week Trent Johnson had his in-home follow up visit with Dotson and his family. I feel like LSU and CTJ are doing what they need to do to keep in this game, and it's really down to LSU and Louisville. The relationship from a coaching standpoint is there, and man, you get Trent in front of the family (Trent's from WA too) I'm starting to like our chances. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=858613 Rick Pitino is pretty tough competition, but honestly, if I'm Aaron I'm thinking about this. LSU's backcourt is dying for a kid of Aaron's talent. Louisville is deeper at that position and yet, I haven't heard a lot about Louisville sending kids to the NBA recently (O fer the last few years). Trent just seems like the kind of coach who will do everything to elevate a player and trust is a huge factor. Baton Rouge vs Louisville is also a factor. It feels like Dotson is still keeping LSU at the top, so that's good, and if it's a family, trust and relationship thing, we're probably leading. You know, as I'm sitting here typing too, the thing that jumps out at me is Les Miles. The man recruits on character, caring and team first. In some ways, CTJ for mens hoops exudes the same thing--and in many ways that's where CJB wasn't able to project that feeling. If the chips fall the way I hope, this could be an understated but very successful recruiting year, b/c Trent is building character on this team, not just talent. :miles: Dotson, Reese, Ludwig, and potentially another big man, could be a very solid team talent wise, but more importantly a new footprint on the type of team players that you could see building on for the next 2-4 years. We're the measuring stick for Louisville and SMU as trips in the coming weeks, folks...
