Rivals today posted an article about 7', 255 lb, Bawa Muniru...

    http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=86679

It's scary, now Duke, Louisville and and Missouri join in the hunt. Another kid that might be headed to prep school for '08-09, and another kid who is having his ear pulled by his AAU coach (Tidwell). I think CTJ needs to get to his statement about reaching out to alumni and have Shaq' give Bawa a call. It sounds like Bawa is soaking in all of the attention and is early in the process. Man, what would a class including Latavious Williams and this kid do for LSU? :)

If this isn't going to make you drool, I don't know what is.

"He is seven foot, 255, runs the court as good as any big man I've ever seen," Tidwell said. "He is from Ghana, so he hadn't played basketball before he came over here. He has made tremendous improvement. He was kind of rough, didn't have good hands, didn't have good instincts at all. All that has improved. He is rebounding above the rim and is really becoming a defensive presence blocking shots. He is one of these kids who his future is in front of him."

Yeah, I'm really not sure of why there seems to be this IL connection (Trent is in on Jordan for '09, as well as Anthony Johnson and Lenzelle Smith from IL in 2010) now for LSU. But, the offer list has sprouted up in a hurry...

I would guess at the end of the day, Trent is trying to get kids to visit LSU and the offer is the only way to sniff out the folks that are serious in taking a visit or not.

What's clear is that some of the interesting (and hot) names where Trent was starting to get traction with, like Aaron Dotson and Bawa Muniru, are becoming household names. Looks like Louisville and Rick Pitino are competing hard for both of these kids as well.

seems like a good tactic for a rebuilding program. if ctj can do the work. get in early on as many as you can and you'll get some recruits that may be a bit above the program.

Getting Bawa Muniru would be pretty awesome. Glad there was finally some news on this thread, I needed it.

another guy who just showed up on our list

    http://louisianastate.scout.com/a.z?s=107&p=8&c=1&nid=2795623

It seems like CTJ doesn't just go for the high profile guy, but maybe the guys who fit his system. I get the feeling he's a much smarter guy then Brady. I'll be glad when we get our first commit tho.

Yes, I think this is a safe assumption. Trent is definitely more calculated and discriminating than Brady, who at times just wore his emotions and thoughts on his sleeve too much. What's clear also is Trent knows he wants to bring a "mix" to the LSU hoops scene of his prior lives. I think he knows that he can attract a different kind of athlete/recruit at LSU than at Stanford or even Nevada, and so, he's going to be wanting a more uptempo aggressive style of play. But, he's going to want smart guys who can play halfcourt when needed, and show restraint watching over the ball. That to me says a more cerebral, or at least disciplined, player.

When you mix that in with just the new one and done world we live in, that means you have to shoot for the stars with a few recruits every year (i.e., try to land that 5 star), but you have to build a base with good quality recruits (those 3-4 star guys) who will live to be seniors on your team. When you look at the late offer to Chris Bass, he fits the mold--athletic, uptempo PG player who maybe is a little under the radar. An offer to a kid like Dexter Fields also fits that mold--not necessarily a high flyer, but a solid kid. Same deal with Eddie Ludwig--he's a skilled, smart kid who will fit in to a system and do well in the right scheme, although he's not going to be Tyrus Thomas athletic. Of course, in a year or two, I think Trent is going to be in on some 4-5 star guys, but I don't see a problem with going after some solid 3 star guys like these. The issue with Brady and Butch was they were only after 4-5 star guys it seemed, and then almost had to settle for 1-2 star guys if things didn't work out.

As for latest news, here's a blurb from a Rivals writer on the outlook for the Tigers under Trent...

Also, Rivals has updated their 2009 list to include Aaron Dotson, who has got LSU in his top 5, and is deciding now whether he'll take a visit to see LSU in person (he says probably yes, but deciding between Louisville and LSU for September 5th). Trent's in the game, he just needs to score.

    Re: Hoops Recruiting (2009)

Here's a guy to keep an eye on. His name is Darrington Hobson, a JUCO prospect from Utah that lists LSU and Oklahoma as his top 2 (neither have offered).

    http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=34133#colleges

He's got good size for his position and has a very smooth J. He was a 4-star and the 95th player in the nation on Rivals' 2007 rankings.

His Juco numbers look nice too. 18 pt 8 reb and 3 ast. A lot of articles say he handles the ball pretty well. It would be nice to pick up a point forward. Looks like CTJ has the Utah hook up.
