When my high school senior was younger, she and I always pictured her at LSU. Over time, she decided that Baton Rouge didn't seem safe to her (probably from watching the news when we visit my parents.) She just received her acceptance letter from North Texas on Friday and will be heading up to Denton next year.
Do they have holistic admissions like LSU? Congrats on keeping her in-state at least and away from college station and austin. Actually Austin would be a blast.
I've heard that LSU has holistic admissions, but I am not exactly sure what that even means. She had sent her SAT scores to UNT when she took it. Then, we submitted her transcript, her extracurriculars, and an essay. And she's in. It's pretty difficult to get into UT or A & M unless you're in the top 5% of a class in Texas. She's in a class of 1600, and the GPA for the top 5% is around a 4.3. She's around a 3.5, and I am fine with that. She's enjoyed her high school experience and is happy with her college choice. Plus, she'll be only an hour away and will likely room with a drill team friend or two. Denton is called "little Austin," so it's definitely got a bohemian vibe and is a pretty fun, chill town. I've always liked going up there, which will be a lot more often over the next 4 years. My 8th grader aspires to art school in New York.
Not me. I've imbibed all sorts of alcohol, but never any weed. I'm simply assuming there is plenty of weed up there. At my daughter's high school, alcohol doesn't seem to be a big issue, but there are lots of pot smokers. It's probably easier to buy than alcohol?
Living in North Texas is very nice. Hence, why my daughter doesn't even want to leave this section of the state.
