Reminds me of Iverson. Interestingly, Waters originally signed with Georgetown, but reneged when they fired JohnTJr. Not sure exactly how he ended up at LSU, but glad he did. Assume he searched programs in need of a starting PG.
I was looking up Waters last night and saw where they have him listed at 140 lbs. I was trying to think of another player that small and you've nailed it. It's Iverson.
Kind of a bad example that bolsters my point. Isaiah played 3 years in college at Washington before leaving early for the draft after his junior year. He was selected with the final pick in the draft. That selection is not a guaranteed contract and most second rounders are just summer league filler guys. IT has developed into a phenomenal offensive player, but he's a liability defensively. Also, in his 6 previous NBA seasons, IT has started more than 62 games in a season only twice -- the past two years in Boston. With more than 35 games played this year already that means in 7 seasons he'll have started over 62 games only twice. He's a rarity in the NBA to have found such success after his journey and two teams giving up on him before he started tearing it up in Boston. Not the model you want to follow in terms of choices and path to the league. Temperament, determination, and resolve are what you want any kid to take from the great story IT has turned his life into for sure. Not his route to the fruits of those ends. I'm not sure I see the same dynamic speed and cutting ability of Iverson. Frame, yeah, but his game still reminds me of CP3 so far.
Yes that's why I didn't like the Allen Iverson comparison. And AI may be my favorite NBA player ever. Iverson was pretty damn selfish. Waters is smart and smooth We gotta extend this lead before the refs figure out they're in r-kansas.
Well, he reminds me of AI in the sense of size and slashing ability. He can take it to the basket amongst the trees, get the ball off, and it somehow goes in. AI, baby.
