The former LSU baseball standout arrived in Miami with his mother and sisters one day after the Tampa Bay Rays called him up from the Triple-A Durham Bulls. Once in Miami, Mahtook told how he learned of his promotion after Durham opened the 2015 season Thursday in Gwinnett, Georgia. "I played the full game. I finished, I got into the dugout. Went into the locker room. I was just going about my business," Mahtook said, via a video posted to MLB.com. "I was trying to get out there quick because my family had just flown in town. And they pulled me off and said they needed to talk to me. I kind of told myself not to worry about it or not to think about too much stuff. "They brought me in there and pretty much told me, 'Be ready for tomorrow, because you're not going to be here, you're going to be in Miami.' So, it was a pretty fun way to figure that out. I was lucky to have my family there to walk outside and share the news with, for sure." Mahtook also told a story familiar to many LSU baseball fans about the passing of his father at a young age and how his mother hit him fly balls and grounders in the front yard of his home in Lafayette.
