all in all, an impressive, gutty, performance by the Tiger batters against one of the best pitching staffs in the nation (#2 the SEC in batters struck out, #3 in the SEC and #16 in the NCAA in team ERA)

honestly, I'm more disappointed in our pitching than our hitting, but then again I had much higher expectations of our pitching

Winning two of three in league play is a good blueprint for success. Great start.

    SEC opening weekend results:

Florida sweeps Vandy, 10-2, 5-1, 8-2...combined 23-5, humiliating time to be a Vandy baseball fan, they've gone from a perenial national powerhouse and a preseason top 10 team to total garbage this season. Stunning, I thought they would have pulled it back together by now. just a month ago, they had the NCAA coach I was most jealous of, Tim Corbin (and LSU and other great programs tried to hire him away from Vandy and he turned them all down)

Kentucky sweeps South Carolina, 4-3, 4-3, 6-3, tough day for South Carolina fans, they were preseason top 3 in every poll, while Kentucky wasn't ranked in any preseason poll.

    Auburn stuns Ole Miss, L 1-2, W 10-4, W 3-2. delicious Old Miss tears :)

    Arkansas sweeps Bama 4-3, 8-4, 7-4. LOL @ Bama

    Georgia takes the series vs Tennessee: W 4-0, W 10-5, L 0-3...oh Rocky Top

Kentucky is now 20-0, and looking like a real threat.

    Mainieri:

"I can't say enough about the way Aaron Nola refused to give up and he continued to compete at a high level after that tough first inning," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. "He demonstrated to me why he's going to be a tremendous pitcher for us with the poise he showed after the rough start."

"We had 10 hits today," said Mainieri, "but they weren't the timely hits we had in the first two games this weekend. I told our players after the game that our level of hitting is going to have to improve. You give credit to the opposing pitcher, but at some point we have to take it upon ourselves to generate offense and produce runs."
