I don't think they give out seedings or place teams due to respect unless you happen to be Miami and maybe FSU.
Vandy got a slightly better draw on paper IMO. Assuming all top seeds make it to Omaha Vandy would play FSU and then either Viginia/Oregon St. the 1st two games. LSU would have CSF and then either UNC/Oregon.
4 of the 5 polls have LSU at #1 Coaches: LSU #1 NCBWA: LSU #1 Perfect Game: LSU #1 Collegiate Baseball: LSU #1 Baseball America: LSU #2 (Vandy #1)
Mainieri on not receiving the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament: “It doesn’t mean a thing to me. The number one seed hasn’t won the National Championship since 1999 so it is a little bit of a curse I think. I don’t think it really matters. The only thing it affects is what side of the bracket you will be on if you are fortunate to make it to Omaha. It looks like if we make it all the way to Omaha, Vanderbilt will be on the other side of the bracket, which could potentially set up a pretty neat final if we were fortunate to get that far and Vanderbilt was. Outside of who it ends up matching you up with it really doesn’t matter. The goal is to be a national seed, because you get to host a regional. If you are fortunate enough to win the regional you get to host a super regional. That’s the important thing. You want to play at home.”
Katz on being the #4 national seed: "It doesn’t really matter at all. I assume it’s so that we aren’t on the same side of the bracket as Vanderbilt."
Another game of the year of the century, part II? If that happens, I hope this one has a better ending than the last one. There would be a helluva lot of parallels, there...
