Can we, sure. Will we, tough road to travel back to back. We have the talent in place, we have the coaching in place. The toughest will be the expectations and the on slaught of competition looking to take us down. The boys managed it this yr, but it will be even tougher now with a National Championship to defend.

    Thats my thinking too.

I would definately NOT take Matty Ott out of the closers role.
IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!

If Von Rosenberg comes along as expected he should end up as th Sunday starter for the SEC series. Austin Ross is good enough to grow into the Saturday starting job and if Von Rosenberg isn't ready yet then Bertucini could be the Sunday starter.

Here is an article on Yahoo!: Mainieri's first title only the beginning - College Baseball - Rivals.com

    Quoting part of the article:

"Looking forward, the Tigers definitely have some important pieces to fill. Jared Mitchell, DJ LeMahieu, Blake Dean and Ryan Schimpf likely will sign professional contracts this summer. And Coleman was a senior and now will focus on a pro career.

But don’t worry LSU fans, the program is in great hands.

The Tigers will welcome back Matty Ott, Mikie Mahtook, Tyler Hanover, Austin Nola, Anthony Ranaudo and Micah Gibbs, among others, next season. They also will welcome another fabulous recruiting class to campus.

LSU is still celebrating this year’s national title. But with Mainieri only 51 years of age, the Tigers very well could have more titles to celebrate in the future. He’s not going anywhere for a while.

The road continues. It likely won’t end anytime soon."

I look forward to watching Mainieri match Skip's record of 5 national titles at LSU.

LSU reloads - I'm not worried about replacements. Look at last two years. CPM will continue to bring them in. It depends on how fast the youngsters develop. He is a winner.

I would be stunned if Blake takes the leap. He needs to settle into a position to up his draft stock. He will be back.

dozar is a natural born 1b. have been saying it all year. if he can come around to college pitching, he'll be a power hitter a la schimpf. book it. bring this post up next season and i'll eat crow. as far as pitching... remember that randy zeigler is an outstanding lefty that got hurt this season and redshirted. he was being mentioned as a weekend starter at the beginning of the season. spencer matthews also redshirted and that kid was plain outstanding in HS -- all america/all state. von rosenburg is another stud. i think our chances are probably pretty good at repeating... but don't forget about UVA either! that team was YOUNG.

and don't forget zeigler and matthews. zeigler is a lefty. we need him and matulis to mature. i honestly think that our pitching can be even better than this season if ranaudo can step up to plate like coleman did. lots of young guys, but the potential is definitely there. i realllllly like coach grewe, this guy will be another head coach before long... hopefully he liked the taste of LSU baseball because the dude is an outstanding pitching coach.

found out today ziegler is transferring to juco or something. apparently hes dropped pretty far in the rotation since his injury and he wanted to move on.

speaks well of the returning staff I think.
