Really good article...especially this time of the year now that conference realignment is officially dead.

It's time to begin speculating on attrition to make room for 2011.

The most exciting thing is....it sure looks like LSU is loaded with studs on the roster.Athletes on talent level with Thomas Parsons, Lamin Barrow, Kellen Theriot, etc are going to be hard pressed to keep their scholarships.

One thing we do need to do is try to retain more upperclassmen for leadership purposes and team maturity and stability. Although there seems to be a grest amount of character on the team. T-Bob's DUI is the major problem and that could happen to anybody. Miles really dodged some bullets in the last few recruiting seasons

(like that RB from Navasota and the Berry kid from Miami who turned out to be real bad apples....not to mention that kid from Barbe that ended up in Tennessee because of Kiffen...I don't even want to perpetuate their names on this board.)

I think some candidates for attrition are:

    Thomas Parsons
    One of the TEs
    Clay Spencer
    Chris Toliver
    Ryan St. Julien
    Rocky Duplessis
    Karnell Hatcher
    Derrick Bryant
    Stavion Lowe
    Matt Branch
    Drayton Calhoun
    T-Bob

Barrow isn't a candidate because hes pushing for a starting job already. Thomas Parsons has been moving from OL to FB and it might be his time here. LSU will likely have Worley/Allen on the depth chart and I can't see a guy like Edwards/Parsons sticking there. I think one of the TEs is a great candidate for attrition with Dickson coming in. Edwards has been moving back and forth, so it might be a indication he may be on his way.

Spencer/Lowe have already been passed up by younger lineman and this is not including incoming Freshman. Lowe has been well documented in struggling within the program. Chris T. has always been overrated coming out of HS, IMO. I never understood his ranking on Rivals and its showing so far at LSU. Hes been passed several times by younger WRs and if he doesn't get PT this year, IMO, hes gone. T-Bob is well documented, off the field problems and injuries. I think his time is done here after this year personally and we have 2 Centers next to him, with someone likely to move over to C this year too.

Calhoun has been struggling a bit and they're having a hard time finding a position for him. I don't see Ryan passing any CBs up on the depth chart anytime soon either, especially with incoming Freshman. Duplessis hasn't made much of a ripple and hes buried. I could see possibly Francois leaving if he doesn't win the starting job this year but hes a Junior, so I'm not sure how well that would play out. Same goes for Karnell Hatcher and Bryant. They both seem to be buried on the chart and Hatcher doesn't really fit Chavis scheme, IMO. But both are Juniors, so they might have to stay anyway. Bryant's ST play may be why he hasn't moved on.

I'd put Davenport on that list because they wanted to move him to oline but he wanted to stay on d. I don't think they have a good vibe of him staying there. I don't think he'd be attrition though...too much ability to not let develop, IMO. Sometimes guys just catch on later. Ability is there, needs the mental part. Someone on the d-line will likely be attrition next year. We have incoming guys plus several more for next year. So, I expect one of the younger guys to get the boot for sure next year. We have a very young line that is a big log jam.

These are just candidates, obviously not all are going to leave.

Parson has already been given a medical hardship.

Duplessis came into LSU a year later and has only been on the team for less than a year but he still could be a candidate after this year depending on his development.

I agree Toliver will probably look elsewhere if he doesn't get it down this year. This year with the depth he is sitting right at the 4th or 5th WR and he has a chance to establish himself. This is the best chance he has.

I am still waiting for confirmation but there were some rumblings that Cordian Hagens will be off scholarship before next season.

I want to believe the plan with Hatcher is to move him to OLB, he can really hit and does very well in run support. He isnt a blazer, but he speed fits the role of a s/olb hybrid. I think he does fit the scheme, like a Harry Coleman.

Chris Toliver this is his year to prove that he belongs.
I think Calhoun can play nickel and return punts and kicks, he has plenty of speed.

The rest you're probably right about. With Lowe, I think I saw it coming, he just didnt have the body make up as a guard or a tackle.

I forgot about Parsons. Wasn't CH already leaving the team? I thought I read that in a local article somewhere and it was confirmed...

IMO, Lowe needs to be moved to G. Makes no sense to me why they wanted him at OT. All the evaluations at camps were he didn't have the foot speed for OT. I don't think hes going to be on attrition next year. They should at least give him a chance at G, where I think he'd be much more natural at. Hes still a candidate though, it all depends on how they feel he can develop.

Hatcher needs to do something. I've heard he was actually in Chavis doghouse recently but I don't know how true that is. He doesn't really fit the typical Chavis S anyway. Like you said, hes probably better closer to the line. I could see him moving to OLB.

Never saw an article and the attrition article only list a Minnesota message board but just checked the LSU roster and he is not on there so he is gone. However, he is not listed on the Minnesota roster either.

Yeah, I read that about Hagans, too, somewhere - maybe nola.com?
