it just takes a few to make a strong impression. the real point is that lsu has not had a top player in a long time. granted many of the lsu players in the nfl from the last decade are still young, but addai is it for top nfl players post 2000 from lsu. and addai aint really a top nfl player--probably not top 10 at his position. a #1 pick bust trumps all. if buster davis is a bust it is no big deal. it is made worse because the impression is they have the physical tools but the problems are mental. lsu is a top program. they always are being shot at. people continually hear "lsu has had a 1st rd pick for each of the past 6 yrs". so they say "yeah, but they all sucked."
Lavalais = 5th round draft pick Clayton = Record setting rookie year. Then a little disappointing, but he had a knee injury and the Bucs haven't had a decent QB since Brad Johnson. Dorsey = OMG seriously? 4-3 dt playing in a 3-4 defense, been in the NFL for 2 years. The book is not closed yet. Davis should have never been a 1st round pick, the Chargers reached with that one and we all know it, but ok I'll give you that one.
Lavalais was a senior moment on my part. I meant Spears. No doubt Clayton had a hell of a rookie year but I've read reports that questioned his work ethic over the years.
What's killing Marcus Spears is that the Cowboys drafted DeMarcus Ware in the 1st round with him and Ware has been phenomenal.
Really thought Harry Coleman was going to get drafted but he will end up on a roster somewhere. LSU had the 5th most players taken this year but I would like to see them a little bit higher. Pat Pete will be in the 1st round next year, Barksdale should be a top 3 round pick, and Nevis and Toliver probably the same. Sheppard has a chance this year to make himself a bottom of the 1st or 2nd rounder. Not sure about Murphy, Eugene, or Livingston. I would say Livingston has the best shot of the 3 to get drafted. Murphy would have to have a great year along with Eugene. Japer and Helton are the only other 2 scholarship seniors leaving.
