I think this too. On the flip side tho, if the right hire is made and he is made the Associate HC, he may stay because of his love for LSU.
Get some popcorn and enjoy the Ed O Show. You might like it. The thing is, is now, we at least have a fuckin chance... for this year.
This is true. Plano has three football stadiums, Clark and Kimbrough Stadiums and Williams Stadium. My daughter is on drill team at a 9/10 high school (the 10th grade teams play on Thursday nights). At the beginning of the year, her team was all excited because they only have games at Clark and KImbrough this year (those are the only two stadiums where the three 11/12 senior high schools play). They didn't want Williams because it was "ghetto." I.E., it has grass and not turf--and would mess up their white boots.
I could potentially see that happening but doubt it. I think the LSU brass and many fans who are hell bent on a offensive minded coach would like to pass on O. However the fan base is loving Coach O. The media is loving the story. If Coach Oeaux beats Bama and loses one game and don't get the job we may see a rebellion. We will never find a coach who will love LSU or Louisiana like Coach O.
What I'm telling you is we are not deep pockets right now and would easily lose a bidding war over salary. Clay is not the coach for the job. Nice guy. Tries hard. Wants to give all the players nice little trophies after the games. He's not experienced enough for the job. The problem is a lack of money for an experienced head coach, a new AD who is no more qualified to run an actual job search and hire than the last idiot, a President and BoT who don't care, and after 2 mid-season firings, a feeling that the job is so high stress that nobody facking wants it. Give me another Pete Carroll.....a nobody who has coaching experience but has no ties to USC or....Pete Carroll.
I'm not a big fan of removing the interim tag, but we'll know more by seasons end. However, judging a coach by his record several stops ago is a poor way to judge a coach. What was Saban's record at Michigan St? At LSU? At Miami? Is he the same coach now at Bama or has he impoved? I have no doubt O is better prepared to coach in the SEC than he was back in his Ole siss days, I'm just not sure he would be a great improvement over Miles. Let's see what he does with the games left.
What does he have to build at LSU? Much like Miles, he only needs to maintain the program at a high level. My biggest concern would be his ability to hire top notch assistants. There is a yearly need to replace one or more and O would need to surround himself with high quality in order to compete at the top. Can he attract top notch assistants?
