Why? We have only missed one, and though not incredibly long it was 40+ yards. Jasper was pretty consistent last year. I think we will be just fine there.
Yes. Read the next sentence. I haven't forgotten them giving up 400yds to Nancy from UNC. I don't put a lot of stock into what we do vs Vandy. . .only what we don't do (i.e. run an effective offense).
Don't forget we have given up alot of yards before in season openers and those defenses ended up being pretty stellar. I don't think you can judge a unit by their first performance of the season. While they may not be the most dominant defense in the country right now, or in the SEC right now, i believe they are well on their way.
No, but the OC and the quarterback do have to demonstrate that they can run a balanced offense. You can't win in the SEC with 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
Miss. St will not be able to move the ball on our D. We will get good field position and win this one. LSU 27 (Hell's half Acre = 7 points) St. 03
nancy from UNC? you mean the fifth-year senior? you mean the team that got 100 of those yards on a busted play that should have been a penalty on UNC in the first place? the same team that LSU gift-wrapped a few first downs to due to stupid penalties? the team that couldn't run, so had to pass? i'll admit that the defense is not flawless, but when compared to the offense, i'm not worried one bit that chavis will have those guys ready to play. :thumb:
fair enough, i thought i remember him missing two (one being a chip shot,) and one was really, badly botched.
Exactly. Even if can squeak out a win just running the ball his week it does nothing to benefit this team long term. Must develop some consistency throwing the football to balance that out.
While I admire your optimism, I don't think you should make apologies for that UNC performance. I am hopeful that was an aberration, but it's going to take more than a solid showing vs Vandy to prove otherwise. I certainly don't think it will be the norm, as Chavis has proven to be a very good DC. But I do think that there is a lot of work to be done. Vandy doesn't present nearly strong enough of a passing game for us to gauge whether or not our secondary has corrected the mistakes made in the UNC game. State doesn't, either, unfortunately.
having twice as many sacks through 2 games than we did through our first 7 games last season doesn't give you warm fuzzies?
